How Many Gold Coins Have You Ever Found ?

I'm curious as to how many gold coins you have ever found in all the years of searching ?

I have talked to a lot of MD hobbyists that have told me that they have never found a gold coin. So, how rare is it to be lucky enough to find one....I guess the key word here is " lucky ".

Just one in 30 years. I would think finding gold coins will vary greatly by location like in the West coast in the last half of the1800's gold coins were used a lot more for trade when some parts of the country were still trading with beads and furs.

Hunting since 1987.. location location location......I've found few silver and No gold coins.
But I've spent most of my time in a town that has a lot of metal detector users so there is few chances for gold or silver except recent drops

I have never found gold coin on my own or a silver dollar in 35 years hunting but I have been hired to recovered hundreds for other people pig lot that was being reclaimed for a field they unearthed GG granpa stash lots of silver and gold. The other was also old family farm house removal after they built new. Jars of coins and guns kept falling out of walls. Both times I was hired by insurance company to recover. The biggest ring that I was ever hired to recover was 11 caret diamond that was in there family over 400 years did not even turn detector on walked out where she thought she lost it looked down and there it was she gave me a big russian gold coin for a Thank You.

A few years ago I found a 1/10 oz Panda Bear gold coin in a Bezel, but in 39 years of digging, no U S gold coins. HH im tn

One ,a 1852 One Dollar Gold Coin I am metal detecting for 3 years, Found it this past fall about 5 inches deep , Starting my fourth year , Good luck to you and Happy Hunting. Ezra.

Twelve for me. Been hunting since the mid 1970s, but didn't find my first gold coin till 1994. Two $20's, one $10, six $5's, one $2.50, and two $1's. And I don't count gold coins in jewelry as "coins" (since they could have been lost yesterday). But if we're counting gold coins in jewelry, It'd make thirteen for me.

They seem to be more predominent out west, for some reason. I know several other guys out here with more than 1 gold coin.

I hopefully hit the Lottery first, then I can buy all I want:crazy:

Not a one. But Tom, Holy crap 12!. Did you find these in California? Maybe that has a lot to do with your good fortune, the gold rush and everything. None the less that's impressive.
HH Gary

Gary, yes, all found in CA. Although..... one found in Needles, CA, so that's pretty close to the border there, eh? :)

4 found on tbe beach, after storm erosion was revealing older coins, and the rest found on land. Old-town demolition sites, stage stops, relicky-sites, etc.... For some reason, there's more gold coins found out west.

none, but friend hunting same lot found $10 gold piece, now property of his ex wife or her new boyfriend! ERRRR! the old boy found one in 30 yrs of hard hunting relics. two more i know were found in my town, but i know they were poached on private property without permission. some people are gonna kill this hobby for us.

back in '85 found a 1.00 gold piece mounted in a bezel.it was found
in a"little league" field around shortstop..ain't found one since!

(h.h.!)

What if you don't count caches? Ie,: if you only counted individual numismatic losses only?

I've found 2 in my 30+ years of swinging a detector. A 1945 Peso, little bitty thing, and a 1979 Krugerrand in a 14k necklace bezel.
