How many filter unit is the M6?

George W

New member
I am now trying to compare the MXT and M6 but Whites site makes it hard.. In there comparison chart it does say the MXT is a 2 filter unit and they don't list the M6 in that chart.. I downloaded both manuals but can't find the info about how many filter unit the M6 is.. Any one know?
One other thing I did notice in the chart it lists the MXT as having Tone ID? Is this true? I thought it was a one tone unit.. Also how hard is the MXT to use at a salt water beach in wet and dry sand. We beach hunt most of the time.. Some say the MXT is a very noisy beach unit.. I'm just checking out all I can about it before we buy one. My DFX is a joy to use on the beach..Thanks.. George & Penny

Well Whites claims the MXT and M6 use the same guts with different options. Ask Greg@ TransBay to be sure, but I'd say they're both 2 filter.

The MXT doesn't have tone ID in the sense some other machines do. It does have 2 tones in the relic mode signifying good target or iron target plus an "overload" squeal for large items too close to the coil.

They both have the same number of filters.

The MXT is a 1 frequency detector and The DFX has 2. The MXT is also a high gain unit with a lot of sensitivity therefore it is chatty. I used the MXT on Texas beaches in the wet and dry sand. I used the relic mode with the 6x10 coil and it worked well for me. On the Whites site there is a M6 beach hunting video with Greg and Jimmy Sierra beach hunting with a M6. It is not an M6, it is an MXT. Greg got his M6 wet that day so they shot the video using Greg's MXT. You can watch an MXT hunting a California beach. Rob
