How many coins qualify as a cache?

Circle C Digger

I guess you could say that I found a mini coin cache today. I dug up 40 pennies out of one hole next to a tree. Every time I thought I had found the last coin, my detector would ring again. That is a record number of coins for me in one spot.:detecting:

I found this this weekend without my detector. It was cleaning out my brother's late father-in-laws basement. 119 Silver Dollars from 1878 to 1929, a bunch of mercs, wheaties, SLQ's & Franklins. I couldn't believe my eyes!!

If it were 6-7 it could still be a pocket spill. I doubt 40 was dumped by accident. Too bad they weren't all dimes.

Camman,I think these coins would belong to the immediate family of the estate. Your brother's father in-law and you don't qualify as relatives. My opinion there could be some major legal issues with these coins found in this basement. Ron

Of course I didn't take the coins. They are in the possesion of him & his wife...They gave me the 1881 as a gift..The retail on the whole loot is no more than $3000. Not worth getting into legal battles over.

I found a cache in a stone cellar hole that consisted of only 4 coins (1 Connecticut, 1 Fugio, 2 Irish Hibernias). Since it was hidden, I consider it a cache. Anything that was purposely hidden away is a cache (including acorns).

Now that is what I call a cache!!!!!!!!!
