how many batteries ???

I have heard some say the gb eats batteries....
So here is my question,,,how many batteries have you gone through so far ??
I have been on 21 hunts so far and that does not count turning on the machine in the house or having accidentally turned it on when I put it down on the stand next to me bed.
I had (2) three packs of which I think just one battery was already gone..
I now have 2 batteries left so I figure the detector came with 1 and I have used 3 others already..
So 4 batteries down in 21 hunts. Each hunt has been between 2-4 hours at least. I usually get between 9-10 am and will make it home by 1:30-2:00 pm. I use a bicycle for transportation to cover the 1 mile route to the park. I take the time to break down my detector and strap it across my handle bars. I figure I have hunted approximately 3.5*21=73.5 hours. Divide that by 4 and I get 18.375 hours per battery.
I have recovered $116 in just clad in that time so 116/4= $29 found for each battery.
This is a fairly rough calculation but I do not see any problem yet with the number of finds vs the cost of batteries. I have not figured the value in pennies or jewelery into the mix here.

Hey dirt lizard your only getting 8 hours per battery ?

That's about right, depending upon the brand and condition of the battery, the headphones used, or not used, the length of time the detector is operated each time, the temperature, etc., etc. I average about 18

i know i have used heaps of batteries and lost count but at $6 a pop it just seems to much so now are on the rechargeables so keep a few with me in my backpack with the other goodies i need out there in the field. and a few always on charge for the next day, costs a bit to set up but am hoping it will work out cheaper in the long run..............granted i may have to change batteries more often but i am not reaching my hand in my pocket every time to pay for them

AJ

why are you paying $6 per battery ??

In over a year 3 8 packs 2, 3packs and Ive been running rechargeable for the last 4 months. Monte's post sounds about right for my bug with gray ghost phones!!!

Jim that's how much a quality battery costs here like a Duracell or energizer can get specials on 4 packs from time to time but for the main part that's what they cost, that's why i am going to rechargables.

anyone used the lithium ion rechargables?

AJ

I could be wrong but last time I shopped around they did not make the lithium ion batteries in a 9 volt, best ones Ive found are the energizer rechargeable. Ten bucks a pop but worth it.
HH

type in " smart parts lithium ion 9 volt rechargeable battery" to a google search have a look see, i am going to try some see how the do, now i got batterys coming out the ying yang.

Thanks AJ
Let us know how they do! Since I just stocked up On NIMH Ill wait for a while to up grade unless their is a gain in hunting time per charge.
HH

will do godigit1 still waiting for them to arrive so will know in a week or two how they do, fingers crossed they do OK, time will tell.

something I would like to see is either macjins like the gb and g-2 either be designed to use 2 9v batteries in parrellel or somebody find a way to fit a new cover that would hold two batteries to run it.
It might well add a little more than double the time you get from 1 battery because the increased capacity because it will hold voltage a bit longer...
