How many acres have I detected in my year? My detecting lifetime? This trip? Excel Program for calculating......

Through the years, I have often wondered how much land I have been over. I created a spreadsheet that answers that question, in square feet, and acres, for a minute, an hour, a day, a year, and my detecting lifetime. LOL
For myself, using an average of a 10 inch coil,

Didn't try and make it overly fancy, and if someone sees where my information is wrong, let me know. I have not tried to do a spreadsheet in several years, so it ain't fancy.
Here is a snapshot of the sheet.below, I hope it is of some entertainment value........LOL

For myself, I have used, as an average, a 10 inch coil, with a 4 second sweep speed, 25% overlap, 6 foot sweep, for an average of 4 hours per hunt, and average of 10 minutes per hour digging time, hunting 2 times per week.

So, in an hour, I am covering 2, 812.50 sq ft. In an outing, 11,250 sq ft., or .28 acres. In an average week, I am covering .56 acres (just over 100X100 ft). In a year, I will cover a total of 14.63 acres. In my 39 years detecting, I have covered, plus or minus 570.38 acres.......A RANCH worth of detecting. LOL I think that number is too high personally, because I overlap about 40% and I think I take more than 10 minutes in an hour digging holes..

But let's put this information into perspective....say you and a hunting buddy go out, Each with a 10 inch coil. In one hard day of hunting of 4 hours, you will have scanned only one acre plus or minus. That is 40,000 square feet. The average city lot is, say 50 X 100, or 5,000 Square feet. So, 8 lots worth of hunting, for two of you in an average day. Put that land mass in the country, or a park, and it is pretty small.

These figures are close, but they do not account for sweep overlay on your path, and I am not convinced that 10 minutes an hour is all the time I am actually in recoery mode, digging, not detecting. LOL

If I increase the overlay from 25% to 50%, the coverage would halve.

There are variables all within this spreadsheet. It is simply an exercise of my mind, to try and understand how many acres I have had my coil over. LOL Here is a link to a google doc application of the spreadsheet. Never used thatbefore and please leave the cells alone........LOL so.....if you are interested, go there and fill in the top cells. The bottom will display as the top is filled. I can't remember how to hid the #error message you will see on the bottom, just so you know.

To do this, go to the link below, and click in each cell on the top, under the B column. As you change the numbers, the answers will display in the lower portion. .

I have detected well over 30 years and just never kept records.. I'm a "Hobby" type detectorist I guess.
Much ground covered, and always just had fun....

Pretty neat chart if that is your style ............ you did a good job from what I can see posted !
