How is the Tejon on coins?

New member
Hi all. Ive read all over the net that the Tejon is a deep relic machine. But, how does it do on coins? Will it pick up deep old silver dimes? I've read that it eats brass like Corn Flakes, so it must be good on copper. Please give any opinions/observations. I'm choosing my next detector with relics/coin hunting in mind. Does Tesoro sell a better coin machine? Thanks.

The tejon is a good all round machine...it will find coins as well as it finds relics. It's pretty hot on small silver coins here in England and i mean SMALL.You have the option to use the 12x10 dd coil on this machine which can turn this machine into a magic wand as long as you go easy on the sensitivity.

couldnt agree more, that 12X10 is a great coil!

This is EXACTLY the response that I was hoping for. I've heard that the Tejon is popular in the UK, so I'm all ears. I think I know the coins that you are refering to, they're about the size of a pea. Thanks buddy.

The coins i was referring to are the small silver hammered coins from the medieval ages. Some of these coins are indeed as you say about the diameter of a pea.In the middle ages people used to cut these coins into halves and then quarters so you can imagine how small these sections of the original coins are.The Tejon is one of the most popular machines over here for finding this type of coin due to it's awesome sensitivity and recovery speed in amongst the iron.I used to own a laser trident 1 a while ago which is basically a tesoro cibola(a chap over here imports them and re-badges them)and found my best ever roman coin with it.The coin was in a trashy area and had been missed by my other detectors. The Tejon has more performance than the cibola so you can start to see it's potential.
p.s...i did not get rid of the trident/cibola....i gave it to a friend who wanted a detector but who was struggling financially. He still uses it with a lot of success and his finds rate increased again when he started using the12x10 coil. The tesoro range are awesome detectors and often overlooked by detectorists who get drawn in by the colourful advertising campaigns of the larger manufacturers. If you decide to purchase one i wish you every success with it in the future.Regards,Neil.

Magnificent machine especially with the larger dd coil.....on my top 3 detector list!

Tejon is excellent on coins. I use it with success for nearly 5 years in Poland, where some older coins are very thin and poorly conductive. I would recommend standard coil, low discrimination and sensivity as high as possibile (I use it on max.)

Excelllent on coins, and deep coins.

The Tejon has a lot of power, in my experience too high sensitivity makes it unstable. The high beams in the fog analogy comes to mind.

With the small coil, my typical sens setting is 8-9 and slightly less than that with the stock coil.

Thanks to all of you for the information, it is appreciated.

and if the tejon slips away don't over look the vaquero not quite the horse power under the hood but is the second runner up to the tejon!

your right,i think they are great machines, but the cibola is better on iron and the sweep speed is faster without depth loss like on the vachero,,i put a 10 turn gb on mine ,,it found coins real deep,,could pick up a

As far as I understand Tejon is excellent for places where coins and relics lie among iron subjects and very close to them. It has very good discrim. It can find even a very small coin near big old nails. There is a video, which shows how it works in discrim mode.
