How is the GTI 2500 for picking through trash?

I'm curious about that. All of the imaging coils are rather large, so how does it do where pulltabs, and bottlecaps are everywhere? Can it distinguish a coin sitting right next to a pull tab? What does the image show in a scenario like that?

Thanks,

Dan

Hello Dan,

Use the zero disc mode with a reduced sensitivity to sort through trash. All my hunting buddies have
gone GREEN and we had this discussion around a spread out 1890's trash area. They were working in
jewelry and coin modes, I was working in zero disc and picking good targets with a lot more success.
Mr Garrett himself
advises the same technique in his books, if you work with higher disc the detector can miss or block a good
target while trying to eliminate the discriminated target.
You can hear the higher conductive targets whisper through just next to other lower conductivity
targets.I usually end up swinging the coil and lock into about a one inch back and forth swing over the
better target. It is quite amazing when you get the feel for it and it blows away the statement that so many chime that Garrett have no target separation ability. I have very good success with the standard 9.5 coil. The ellip and
sniper are supposed to be the best. As far as imaging
the detector must see everything under the coil so I do not see any hope for proper imaging over multiple
targets.

Exactly what Dan said...plus Im doing his technique with a 12.5 imaging coil at a lake which is trash everywhere, in the lake actually.(is very low) but with paying attention can do it well. I also do the zero disc mode there, you can here the iron tone(low) and a middle tone right next to each other. the pulltabs are mostly a 4.5 on taget scale and i just reject it and move on. sometimes they show up 5 or 5.5 but most is 4.5. Just takes a little practice when muliple targets are unde the coil. HH Alan

The Scorcher 4.5" coil is a real killer in the true all metal mode. Because of its size, you don't really need the imaging and it is incredibly sensitive to coins, minnie's etc. And the depth with such a little coil in that true all metal mode in incredible!

If you scan real slow, turn the sensitivity down, and raise the coil up about two inches or so you can pick some coins out. But they have smaller coils for the 2500, a 5x10 DD, and a 4,5 sniper that work real good.

One thing I can say about ALL Garrett machines is that they are the BEST in trashy areas. The fast recovery makes them awesome in trashy areas, even with the stock coil. Even the ACE, when used with no discrimination will find coins right next to junk targets. I dont think Minelab machines can even come close in trashy areas!
