How important is the threshold?

So, here's the scenario - Today I hunted out in the forest - *very* little trash, but I couldn't seem to get a threshold. I was running at Iron Mask -10, sensitivity from 32 down to 22. Also tried semi-auto and that was a little better, but even when swinging slow I couldn't keep a threshold, just seemingly constant, or almost constant nulling. There is very little iron here. I'm perplexed, what's up? Is it important to keep a threshold or will good targets pop through the nulls? Even the weak ones?

If your nulling then just go slowly.. it will pick up stuff there the nulls.. your nulling is probably highly mineralized ground

Thanks Jim, out here in CA the ground is pretty mineralized. How would you set the sensitivity in this kind of ground? If I actually stop the coil movement the threshold will come back, but even a snail's pace sweep would null, at just about any sensitivity level. Since it seemed nulling was the "norm", I just upped the sens to manual 32, is this too high (if it's not falsing)?

32 auto should be OK.. I would bury some targets at varying depth and see what settings work best and how slow/fast you have to sweep to hit them best
