How hard is it to convert to the 180 from a 550 meter?

I came across a web page that shows what resistors and the adjustment pot to change to convert from the 550 meter to the 180. How many of you guys have done this and also what are the values of the resistors as far as wattages? In other words what does 10K 1% resitor mean? I know the 10K means 10 ohms resistance but does 1% mean watts? Can any body help answer this for me? Tim

!0K means 10,000 ohms. 1% means that the actual value of the resistor in ohms is +- 1% of the 10K value rating.
It will have to be 1/4 or less watt to fit on the board. Wattage rating is not important as it will not have to handle hardly anything. It's physical size that would be a problem.

Its an easy mod, the bit that took me the longest was getting the front decal off without damage to get at the screws

Hard part is to find 1% resistors

Here is a link for 10K 1/4 watt 1% resistors http://www.alliedelec.com/search/productdetail.aspx?SKU=8400419

Bigtim from your post I am not sure you want to do the job yourself. That's going to ting board that needs components soldered on, and removed. You'll need a good solder sucker and a low amp iron with a fine point to do the work. Use a good magnifying glass to check your work and look for solder bridges. When your done you may end up with a 000 meter! I would look for a swap out, that is put yours on ebay get the 65 bucks they go for and buy a 550 for the 100 bucks they go for. Just going to take time to make the right deal. Or just buy it new for the 185 they sell for minus the one you sell.

Thanks for the concern but, I do have all of the nessesary soldering iron(low watt) and am quite good with it. I have a solder sucker and the heat sinks etc and have replace components on electronics before. It was just the values represented on the resistors I have never saw before. Thanks for all of the replies but I believe I am going to tackle it anyhow in the future, Tim

When I ordered in all the parts to do one for a freind I got extra everything needed, just got to remember where I put them as they are in my shop.

Do you still have the web page for the mod? And did you mod your meter if so can you let me know how?
thanks
