How good is the T-2

Well, l`m not overly experienced to give more than my recent finds results as l`ve only been out with my T2 approx 6 times.

First time out was on a well hammered site that has not been ploughed for at least 2 years but has been dragged a few times with winter turnips put in 2 or 3 times over the last couple of years.

Its basically our fall back field which we tend to hammer to death, but as its produced finds from middle bronze age (broken socket axe head) to moder day with everything in between, but most importantly, its the only field l know of in our area that has produced Saxon sceats. So thats why we work it so hard :wiggle:

Anyway, last time on this particular field was around October last year, nothing but lead had turned up but lead for the last 3 or 4 trips, my buddy and l using XP Goldmaxx Powers, so l was`nt too hopeful of finding much with my T2!

First ever signal l dug with the T2 was a George III half penny, not a small coin by any means, this was followed by 2 Roman grots, part of a medieval strapend buckle, a Hans Krowinckle jetton and nice of all a cut hammered silver half penny of Henry III.

Nice few finds for a 3 hour stint on a worked out field.Nothing much at great depths it has to be said, but tiny bits of lead and bronze were also found.

Second time out same field with my buddy along with his XP GMP, fewer finds but another Roman coin, small lead etc.

Third on a really bad field, again small lead and bronze alloy, nothing of note found but neither did the XP GMP find anything on this field, it has scrap metal car parts and all sorts on it, but hammered silver and Roman have come off it so always worth a try.We then tried a grass field opposite, my mate had a lovely signal and asked me to see if the T2 could register it, it did no probs.

He then started to dig out the object, only to lose it! He checked the hole, nothing, spoil nothing, l said `let me see` and yes, the T2 was saying it was still in the hole :surprised: So he dug another spade full out and produced a lovely Jacobean buckle!Must have been a good 10" down, obviously it was either out of the GMP range or it had fallen on edge...either way the T2 got a signal and the GMP did`nt

Next time out was on a rough ploughed field, l got 2 Roman coins in half an hour, the GMP with 11" did better with 5 Roman, but l`m still learning my T2 l was`nt alarmed, hell l been on this field for 3 hours before and found nothing, so 2 Roman is not bad!

Then, at last, the sheep came off one of my favourite fields :jump: my mate was working so l was on my own.

Compacted ground that had had winter turnips on, all eatten down by the sheep, not even stalks left.At first l was struggling, so l dropped sens down to 50, disc 10 ,tones 2+ and bang after bang...like shelling peas up they came, one Roman coin after another!

35 in total, including tiny Minims only 3 or 4mm in diameter and 1 very worn Dupondius, also a Georgian 6d love token, a medieval strapend buckle and another cut half hammered silver penny (last find that day), all in 3 hours.Pretty impressive, but l have previously found 27 Roman in an afternoon with a XP GMP last year.

Next day l returned and found the field had alreay been ploughed!l was a tad miffed as l prefere compacted ground and have struggled on Roman sites when ploughed, so confidence was low.

However, with a couple of tweaks l started finding again, 18 Roman, this time in 2 hours, nothing else this time, just the Romans.

Personally l never think much about depth, on ancient sites the finds are within the first few inches so why fret about depth.

IMHO there is little between my old GMP and the T2, set her right and if its there she`ll find it!

im not falling for that, i know there are 6500 to 2000 yr old copper culture stuff in my area, axes, spear points, awls, just have to find it.

The T2 and the F75 are the two best machines ever made. I have had both for a long time and I really don't know which one I prefer. I guess it is according to what trash is in the ground. The T2 has a wider ID spread in the iron range and the F75 has a wider spread in the aluminum/coin range. Still, neither one will match the Explorer SE in ID ability but the T2/F75 are so fast they are more fun to hunt with. You can cover a lot more ground without the fear of missing targets. I consistantly make more finds with them. The Tejon w/5.5 coil will also fill my pouch.

I lived a bit closer to your area Thompy. I would be out looking for that copper culture stuff! ;)

I did manage a nice awl a few years back and a friend found a site, in a back yard believe it or not, where he found some blades and pieces.

Tom i havent found any thing yet, a a 1.5 in pounded flat piece of copper, a guy finds alot of awls but hunting near the cemetary, and indian burial grounds, thats a big no no for me, the park I'm hunting had some digs, years back, so i dought that they found it all, im sure there are plenty of other areas around
