How dumb do people think the metal detector manufacturer's are with warranties.

Example of this seller's on the classifieds or Ebay who sell metal detectors with a blank warranty card that enables them to transfer this to the new owner.Number one its not legal and don't you think White's, Fisher,Tesoro,Bounty Hunter,Garrett and Minelab monitor these sites and are prepared to challenge these claims.

Warranty
Chapter 6 GMT Information
If within two years (24 months) from the original
date of purchase, your White's detector fails due to
defects in either material or workmanship, White's
will repair or replace at its option, all necessary
parts without charge for parts or labor.
Simply return the complete detector to the Dealer
where you purchased it, or to your nearest
Authorized Service Center. The unit must be
accompanied by a detailed explanation of the
symptoms of the failure. You must provide proof of
date-of-purchase before the unit is serviced.
This is a transferable manufacturer warranty, which
covers the instrument two years from the original
purchase date, regardless of the owner.

This section from White's web site would indicate that the transfer of Warranty is both legal and acceptable to White's Electronics.

Great for White's sounds like a very good and fair warranty. But some warranties are meant just for the original owner's especially the ones with a life time warranty. Thanks for the information.

Ron, you are right in some cases. For example, Tesoro's lifetime warranty is for the ORIGINAL purchaser only!

Tesoro has gone beyond and covered customer's who bought used Tesoro's metal detectors that weren't covered. These company's are going to get to a point that they can no longer afford to look the other way with void warranties. The point I'm trying to make is someone who sells a used metal detector with a blank warranty card could get their selves in legal trouble if they claim a void warranty can be transferred.Ebay has a lot of seller's that do this to make a sell example a Fisher life time warranty. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to track this transaction I wouldn't be surprised manufacturer's watch these sales.Bottom line multiply these unnecessary warranties and thats a lot of money going out.

I sell product myself. Plus I build houses for a living. I often go above and beyond what is required on my warranties. Mostly because that makes happy customers. Happy Customers are repeat customers, happy customers are great advertising because they tell people they are happy. Also it is to eliminate unhappy customers. Research has shown that the typical happy customer tells 3 or 4 people, an unhappy customer tells 10 people. Therefore it takes about 3 happy customers to offset just one unhappy customer. Companies that go above and beyond their responsibilities do so because it is good for their bottom line. Ever notice that it is the more successful companies that tend to go above their responsibilities? It is going above and beyond the call of duty that ends up making those companies successful. If it was going to put them out of business, companies would not honor void warranties.

My guess most people who buy metal detectors with blank warranty cards never have to use them. The customer is always right even when they are wrong. My philosophy owner of Barnanza Farm LLC

I don't know about that...... My buddy had an old used umax, he called Tesoro, he told him that it was used and they told him to send it in... he was only charged for the shipping....and got a bumper sticker to match...:clapping:

Tesoro goes way over what most reasonable people would expect on servicing their machines. As to the original premise, I'm betting that if one buys a machine over ebay and receives a BLANK warranty card that the odds are in most cases, if they fill it out and register the machine, whatever warranty that goes with it, would be honored. My two bit.

I think it could also depend on how much the cost will be to make repairs weather its enforced..Again its very easy to track the sales on most of these used metal detectors.

I've never had a problem with a Tesoro, so I've never had a reason to send one back. I know that when Jack Gifford started Tesoro a number of years ago it was run as kind of a family business in Prescott, I believe. They have always been more than kind to those that I have known who sent machines in for repair, fast, reliable and reasonable. They have a great reputation here in Arizona as a result. They make a great product and have great service.

I did have the occasion to ask once about a warranty, because I was buying a Tesoro on eBay, and was told that it was for the original purchaser only. I have, however, known a couple people who had lost their warranties and sent it in for repair and they were never asked for proof of anything. But knowing what their policy really is, I would find it unethical to try to use a warranty on a machine I didn't originally buy. They're decent people and I would not like to take advantage of them.

No, I don't work for Tesoro.....but I would if I could! :beers:

I have 3 Tesoro metal detectors.
After 15 years use, 1 of them has failed.
Didn't act funny, wasn't bumped, just won't turn on with new batteries installed.
I suspect something simple inside, like a disconnected wire.
One of these days I'll ship it in for repair.

I don't suspect there are many problems with Tesoro metal detectors.

I own three Tesoros, all bought used. At the time I purchased them, I made good enough deals that I felt if I had to pay for a repair down the road, it was still a decent deal. Fortunately, no problems so far, but if I were to send one in I'd mention that it was a used machine and I am willing to pay for the service. I've read enough reports where they've fixed used machines for just the shipping that there's a good chance that I might not have to pay for the service, but I would offer. I really like my Tesoros.

Bill,I just bought a used CZ70 with a blank warranty. The seller advertised this metal detector with a life time warranty. This seller isn't even the original owner after five minutes of research. The point is if I can find this information any metal detector manufacture has a lot of smarter people there that can figure this out even quicker.Hopefully I want need repairs, but if so I'm not going to misrepresent that I'm the original owner.

I'm with with you BarberBill.

I also own three Tesoro's and this statement is true for me also:

HH,

I have a Tesoro Silver Sabre my Dad bought me 1983 , The battery test quit working (The tone you hear when you turn it on) , I
did not realize that was what it was doing. I called Tesoro and they put an engineer ( I believe his name was Nick, but I could be wrong)
and he told that there was nothing wrong with the functionality of the machine, just the the battery test. Thats great customer service.
I now use a Garrett Ultra 1000 and live within walking distance of Garrett and I have been there numerous times with questions
about my machine and setting it up for this area. Garrett has great customer service also.

Fisher Labs don't require a warranty card; just proof of purchase. However, I'm unsure if it's transferrable. Never-the-less, most purchase receipts never list the original purchaser. So who's to say?....
