How does the Tejon work around overhead power lines ?

I hunt some civil war camp sites, that have alot of power lines in the area. Some detectors I have used in these areas went so erratic,no way you could hunt with them.Im seeing more and more of this,Just wondering how the tejon would work in this type of enviroment.
Thanks Rick in KY

When I was using the Tejón just before and shortly after it was released I took them (I went thru three -3- specimens) to a wide variety of sites in four states, as well as to many locations in the Portland, Oregon, metro area that had electrical power challenges.
In particular I worked four locations that have a very high ground phase reading as measured with a White's MXT. The sites were all in the 81 to 87 range, but different in appearance and 'texture.' At the sites with a high reading but a more loose and porous ground material that you can easily toe-scuff to 6" or more, the Tejón got fairly decent depth. It compared favorably with many makes and models, usually better by an inch or so over other Tesoro models. However, in the "bad ground" that was much more compacted and had a darker appearance, the Tejón didn't work nearly as well as many models, to include Tesoro's own Eldorado.
I worked near some powerline challenged sites as well. One was a park and play field where there were power lines running overhead along the south and east sides of the park. Here, a Cortés and DeLeón were relatively quiet with the stock coil if you stayed at least 40'-50' away, but with a 10x12 or CleanSweep coil it was very noisy unless you were a good 150' away. Part of the problem was associated with a bad preset GB being too negative.
I used the same coils on a Bandido II µMAX and Eldorado. Both were quieter than the other two Tesoro's with the Bandido II µMAX being the winner. This was with all models set to reject the same target.
I then took the Tejón's there using the stock 8x9 coil. I could not work any closer than 50+' or so w/o noise.
I then went to a series of small playgropund sites that are located along a "green space" that runs along a hilly rural area where there are tall, high-power transmission lines. Even though they were about 75'-100' above ground and a good 125'-200' to the west, the Tejón's were some of the noisiest models I ever tried to use there. A final site I tried them at, however, had been a challenge to some models but the Tejón I hunted with there worked as quietly as any Tesoro I ever used there.
In short, it is just about impossible to know for sure unless you try a particular make and model at a given site. There are generalized answers, such as the Tejón was usually noisy around most power line challenges, but I didn't use them where YOU want to hunt so I can't say for sure.

I would like to see this post over at the depot's Tesoro site. There are some people there that need to hear other honest evaluations rather than the one sided version they are getting over there. HH

with power line issues, but I might have weeded them out with my Cortes. I found several places that would drive the Cortes into a beeping frenzy. I figured that if the Cortes couldnt hunt there that the Tejon couldnt either, so I never took it to those same places. I instead hunted those sites with a less sensitive detector. I think Monte is right in that you just have to try it to know. I didnt with the Tejon, but I didnt lose any sleep over it

I have four Tesoro machines and have had problems with all of them around powerlines. With the Tejon I just turn down the sensitivity until the chirping goes away. I have found that you need to be ground balanced before you get close to the powerlines. If you try and gb within range of the powerlines it will drive you crazy.

I appreciate the kind comments. Have to be a bit careful over there, however, as an errant comment (such as a reference to this Findmall Forum) can cause a problem. I was banned over there once simply for making an identical post, done cut-and-paste, on my evaluation of three Tejón's and several other makes and models.
I try to post when I feel my responses might be of help to others, but I also have to use a little caution at times. I usually only posted on three (3) Tesoro Forums. Here, the Treasure Depot's, and the "Official Tesoro Forum" site. Haven't been at the latter for a few months now because my assigned password won't let me logon, and I sent them an E-mail two weeks ago, or more, regarduing this and still haven't heard from them. So, I just post here and at the TD site.
I will admit, there are many times when I read about some rather "healthy" performance from a Tejón over there and would really love to respond, but hold my tongue, so to speak.
I hope you're able to get out and enjoy some rewarding detecting!

And I have seen some of your posts over there about the tejon and Cissna's posts in the same thread stating issues of performance that are 180 degrees different from yours. I questioned that difference once in the thread and it was almost immediately deleted. I understand you holding your tongue Monte, but like it or not...you have shown your saavy on detectors and your tongue should be going a mile a minute when you see such hype. Some people get sucked into that like a vaccuum and need some guidance from someone who is both knowledgable on the subject and can be objective. Being a Tesoro, I know the Tejon must be a good machine and should be talked on it's merits, not for the obvious ongoing agenda that is happening over on the depot. Thanks Monte, and I have been getting out some and will have more free time as fall and winter approaches. Good hunting to you and thanks for speaking honestly about all machines you use, not just the Tejon.....George

So long as you post the "truth" as you see it on this forum you are doing everyone a huge favor. I still have that Eldorodo (new model)and it's still a keeper. You take care and please keep on posting your opinons.

is not affected at ALL by these huge overhead power lines and his Whites XLT goes nuts!!! He has to move out away from them while I find all the buttons!! NO kidding. Anybody else notice this about the Tigershark?
