How does the new Gold Bug work on salt water beaches?

Headin' to N.C. this weekend and wanted to know whether I should bring it or something else. Thanks for your help.

Gold Bug 2 will not function in the wet sand at all.

I found the Gold Bug Pro/DP will function on the wet salt sand with the ground balance going to "0" so you will have to manually increase it a bit in order for it to read anything.

Falsing will happen occassionally but your depth will be very limited.

On my dry sand I had no limitations at all.

Well that's disappointing. Guess I'll have to go with my Xterra in beach mode. That's worked well for me in the past. Thanks.

Both mentioned detectors will work on a beach, XTerra is fine for dry and moist sand but the Gold Bug-Pro is better when it comes to the wet area.
XTerra in the wet (wet as in the picture) is best run in prospecting and beach mode at the same time to get the best depth and Do Not use "Pinpoint" it's useless in the wet.
GB-Pro will ground balance at 0 in the wet near the water but it can run nearly full bore in disc or all metal depending on the location.
The GB-Pro need to be ground balanced to the area being searched be it wet, dry or in between.
For beach work with these two detectors I use larger DD coils to maximise the potential of both units.
If I could only take one I would go for the Gold Bug Pro and the largest coil available at the time.

Well I know the Xterra in beach mode is deep, so I guess I'll take that. Thanks.

Better ask around more first. I have heard from more than one person that the X-Terra 705, even in beach mode, doesn;t do well in the wet salt sand.

It's nothing against the 705, its just that it is a single frequency detector and NONE of them do well in wet salt sand.
