How does the GTA/GTI series save settings after the battery has been removed?

I am sending my GTAx-1250 in to Garrett, to have the power cable replaced. The machine runs as good as the day I got her, but I was wondering.
After all these years, is there some type of lithium battery or something that saves setting that needs to be replaced?
I notice once in a while and I, have asked about this before. My GTA1250, sometimes will not retain settings and return to default setup when turned back on.

Any comments advice

you have a limted time to change batteries or all custom settings will be lost. The standard settings are a part of the electronic components and can't be lost. One of the guys with the newer equipment will be able to reply about your GTI series machine.
