How does the Edge compare to the 3D?

Hi Kurt

The Edge & the 3D are 2 entirely different operating/designed detectors, designed for different hunting.

The 3D was primary designed to hunt early pre 60's sites, void of modern tin foil, for early coinage.

The Edge is a very recent digital design for average hunting conditions. It's a unit in between the ID Excel, and the Coinstrike.

They both have their place. I like the 3D for older sites looking for deep silver coin, and using it on salt beachs. The Edge does a super job in trashy sites like play grounds, and has a few points about it that makes it do well in relic hunting. One of the good points is that it's not very bothered by hot rocks.

Like the Coinstrike the Edge can be swept faster than the CZ's and still pick out the co-located targets. The response/recovery time is fast in comparison to the CZ's and it gives fairly accurate visual TID information on iron co-located targets as well. It may sacrifice a bit of depth compared to high $$ detectors but its overall capabilities on a wide range of targets and stability in some pretty tough conditions more than makes up for that IMO.

The Edge is MUCH lighter. I went out today with my CZ-70Pro and the big Sunray Invader loop. I have NEVER in my life had a detector kick my arse so badly because of weight. Even putting the Fisher 10.5" loop on the EDGE still makes it feel like a featherweight, and that combination will put you down deep with the more expensive detectors. And you can easily hunt 3X as long before the tennis elbow kicks in.
FOR REAL.
