How does the 3x18 do in the trash,,,

grouser

I have been doing well with my 5.75 in a very large campground nearby. I will be here for weeks before I see the end of it,,, wonder if the 3x18 will work in medium trashy areas,,, thanks

Kind of depends ... in trashier areas with multiple targets along the length on the coil you could get non-smooth blips that sound like noise or targets on the low end of being discriminated out. Since the discriminator is trying to exclude something, it may not have recovered and makes a very nearby or inline good target blip too or not sound off.

Now, if you turn 90 degrees to those and sweep again you can get very clear separation of the targets. That is, unless there are other trash targets that now line up on the length on the coil.

I have worked the 3 x 18 in some fairly trashy areas, but find results depend on how tolerant I am of working through the blips and sweeping from different directions, or just ignoring the blips and looking for the shallower good solid target beeps that are sitting above some of the trash.

Kind of have to try it at the location you are hunting to see if it may be worthwhile.

OK thanks,, not impossible,,, I will prolly get one and try it

Forgot to mention that there is a way to make the 3.6 x 18 inch Cleansweep coil a much smaller coil. Set the coil at about 35 to 40 degrees with respect to the ground and just detected with the tip. Probably loose some depth, but in the trash it is hard to get deep anyway due to masking. That technique has let me pull a couple more coins out of the ground without having to go back to the car to get a smaller coil.

The Cleansweep is one of my favorite coils for many sports field hunts.

Usually a good target will always give a good solid sound, double check with a cross sweep for same sound, that will help some what.

yes sports fields watch out!!!!
