How does one know?

Just been lurking for a bit. I am a current Etrac user and am pretty happy with it. Just starting to get the bug on this new machine, but not sure how one knows when it is time. What have others done to make this decision?

For me all it took was a silver drought.

I thought that if I'm going to detect for hours and hours I wanted the best detector I could get with the latest technology. So I sold my extract and hot the 3030. I haven't looked back. Just do it. You won't be sorry.

For me it was the slowing down of silver finds with the ETRAC in my spots, and reading reviews by former ETRAC users that had made the jump to the CTX and loved it. Once I got the CTX I went a whole week having "firsts" at spots that were suppose to be dry. It's that good of a machine. I'm glad I got rid of the ETRAC for it.

Drought is long over! Silver literally every time out except once or twice.

Sounds like everyone is happy, that is good. Is Sunray probe the same one as on the Etrac?

Sun Ray or anyone else will not be able to make a probe for the CTX 3030 due to electronics inside.

I have a Etrac and love it but the CTX just performs faster and better in and around iron.

Was looking at a Deus, but when I started watching videos/comparing info, etc and seeing the price was only 600$ more for the CTX I dove right in and havn't looked back. I've found more silver in a month so far than I found in 3 months with the AT-Pro.

when I saw a screen shot of three targets the CTX was reading , two of them iron and one silver,,,,,, I bought one the next day !!!!

love the E-Trac (still have it) - the CTX for me is like an E-Trac "plus". The combined mode makes finding coins in iron and trash easier. I don't think it's any deeper than the E-Trac, but the processor is faster - again, making it better at separating coins from trash. Waterproof feature is great on land and at sea. Wireless headphones - another bonus. As stated earlier - better balance - oh, and a much longer lasting battery and better software - and GPS. Does this add up to a thousand bucks? Your call on that one - for me - it adds up to more fun and the feeling that I'm swinging the best machine on the market.
