How does one know when battery pack is fully charged?

I got my new Explorer SE Pro the other day. Instructions say to charge the batteries for 18 hours the first time you charge them.
I charged them overnight for 19+ hours but the red light stayed red on the charger this morning. Is this red light supposed to go off when the batteries are fully charged?
I put the pack in the Explorer this morning and it shows full charge on the detector icon.

That's it. Red light stays on. I guess you can't overcharge it. Enjoy your new machine. I've had an explorer II since it was released and just got a new etrac last week.

Just Google "leaving rechargeable batteries in charger" and read that batteries do suffer after sitting in the charger long after it full.

I agree but on page 23 of the Manuel says that minelab batteries can stay on the charger indefinitely. I charge overnight and unplug in the morning just to be safe.

Besides having the new and fantastic Lithium Ion battery pack that only take 2 hours to charge,
I have three Minelab NiMN battery packs. It just sucks that there is no way to know when one pack
reaches full charge to begin charging the next one.

Interesting that I took my new SE Pro detecting yesterday and after about an hour the battery icon
began to show some discharge. It's a new NiMH batter pack that
came with the detector. This is perfectly normal. I understand that.
It's no diss on Minelab. I've put over 6 hours on the Lithium pack and the icon hasn't moved yet.
