how do you pinpoint with a double D search coil

Sorry may sound a little dumb have only searched with a concentric coil. I was trying to use my new F4 both with the round coil and the Big D. Pinpointing with the D was odd for me. there seemed to be several places along the coil that could read "0" when I put a coin out to test.
Sorry guys just trying to learn. Thanks for the help.

Off the front center tip or the back center tip. A DD detects as deep at either end as it does everywhere else and has no receiver for pinpointing.

Bill.

With the DD you can't come up to the target from any direction...you need to concentrate on the forward tip and come into the target . It gets easier with use. Just remember there are TWO hot spots...front tip and rear tip. For me it's about 1-3/4" in from outside edge.

I have particular problem with beer tops registering as coin. In parks I use the round coil and the DD on the beach.

I will try this later today. I thought if I used the DD I could cover more ground. just at a local school trying out my F4. it seems to work little different than my XLT. but wanted something a little lighter

Once you hit a target, keep wiggling the coil back and forth over it, while slowly dragging the DD coil toward you. When the sound produced by the target drops off, the target should be right off the front tip of the DD coil. Some detectors may might drop off a bit sooner. And others will still produce a signal with the target an inch or so out in front. Just depends on the sensitivity and characteristics of the detector / coil combination you are using, and the target. Toss a coin down on the ground and try it out. You'll soon see how yours responds. HH Randy

my coil on the t-2 PP in the center of the coil, do you have to PP off the edge of the f2,f4 like a standard DD coil? strange

Some are different from others my minelabs toe or heel. The Troy X5 with DD is at 3 points toe, heel, and center. Always test your machine out before heading out so as to be familiar with
its coil some can be tricky. Dan
