How do you personally decide

How do "you" decide if you are going to dig a target or let it go?

If its deepa nd gives me a repeatable signal I dig. Even if it hits good one way and not the other I still dig if its deep.

Thanks leebowhunts68, has that method turned up any good finds? Do you keep digging foil and pulltabs or use discrimination after awhile?

Yes, repeatable signals esp. 6 or more inches DIG! If I'm in an area that allows digging when I want, I dig it ALL. When in a well manicured park or lawn here in the big city I will be more selective but if it repeats (& Sometimes when it don't - Gut feeling) I Dig! Remember, high conductors (Like Silver coins) are relatively easy for you and your machine to identify (Usually) It's the lower conductive metals such as GOLD that pose the challenge! The little diamond engagement rings will usually ID as FOIL. Larger rings will usually come in around the Pull-tab range. Cruel joke played on us MD'ers... What the Valuable stuff? Gotta dig a lot of crap! ALWAYS try to dig those strange VID #'s! :pulltab:

[size=large]trying to go with the odds more and more and just dig. it depends on my health and how tired i am or the amount of joint pain i start getting. when i'm fresh i'm trying to dig more foil and 40's & 50's. also trying to remember bula's numbers. ya don't argue success. sooner or later i'm gunna beat the odds and get a nice gold ring. i mean a yellow gold one. i already have two white gold ones.

It depends on the signal. How does it sound as I rotate around it checking it? Is there a "null" of iron being discriminated out as you come into the target? How does it pinpoint, small in size?faint in volume? If the VDI is bouncing or jumpy how big of a swing in numbers does it take? How does the tone sound, scratchy?smooth?crackles? How deep is it pinpointing? The bulk of my old coin finds ie silver dimes, silver quarters, silver halves, silver dollars, wheaties, indianhead pennies,V,war and buffalo nickels have come from depths of 5 inches or less.Yes I've dug old coins from 6 to 10 inches deep just not as many as most guys would think there'd be.I've dug more clad coins deeper than 6 inches than old silver/copper and nickel coins that deep.My experience has been in Montana, the Dakotas,North Carolina,Virginia and Missouri.Bill

I dig all high tones and iffy signals. If high in one direction, iron in the other, I leave it in the ground.

:wiggle:[size=large]judging by the comments i've got a park full of gold rings that i been passing up.
