So you have a pocketful of coins and jewels but you certainly don't want to toss all the canslaw and gum wrappers in your pocket with the goodies;
Please shorten my learning curve a bit and tell me how you contain all the trash you pick up during a days hunt.

I use one pocket for trash and the other for clad.Any silver finds or very old pennies or rings are placed in my pants pocket.After the hunt I usually retrieve all the clad from the nail apron and dump the rest in a trash can.The old fashion nail apron is inexpensive and works very well.The new aprons are stiff I usually wash one before using it for a hunt.If you loose your apron you can find a replacement for under a buck.Some hunters get to complicated a pocket for five or six categories.The cloth apron is comfortable and effective and doesn't make the user look like a homeless bag man.By the way any interesting item will go in the good finds pocket.I usually try to be comfortable carpenter pants a fishing vest will be worn.Any items big as a soda can or wet take a break and dispose of them or load in your car too much excess weight to carry around.

I use a leather carpenters bag on one hip. It has 5-6 seperate areas, some large (for trash) and some smaller,for finds, smokes, folding magnifying glass, etc. I keep a 5 gallon bucket in the truck for scrap metal, trash goes in a plastic grocery bag & gets discarded when I get home, scrap gets sorted into seperate containers,

You could always double or triple-up those plastic grocery bags & slide your belt through them for a cheap hands-free trash container.

These are normaly made out of vinyl or some type of heavy flexible plastic, some are made out of leather! The point is that these types will contain the soil and moisture and will not seep thru and stain your clothes! Having 2 pockets it is easy to separate the goodies from the trash! Glass and sharp metal objects immediately goes into the nearest trash can. Rings and jewelry items will be secured in my truck. I do not show any good items to strangers maybe show them some trash items. If they are looking for a lost item I will get them to describe it very accuratly and will give it back if I have it or find it later!..........................................HH.....................Joe

Also if not sure about an item, do not discard it but keep it for identification later! Many newbies have tossed away relics like old square nails, horseshoes, padlocks, old keys, old buttons(military?), rusted short pipe(gun barrel?), junk rings(old radio premiums?),etc. Anyway if you think an item is really junk just send it to me! I even collect old obsolete metal detectors! But most everything is collectible nowadays! The obvious junk like pull tabs and aluminum cans can be tossed but I know some who sort all the metals recovered and after it gets to a decent amount will take it to the scrap yard and sell it for its metal-scrap value!......................................HH........................Joe

I like to hit play grounds a lot. I find people are more at ease with me if I don't have a pouch, knife, probe and a host of tools mounted on me. I just have my earphones, a plastic scoop in my pocket and my detector. I use my left pocket for coins and trash and my watch pocket for jewelery&valuables. That works because the finds and trash are fairly clean. Also my car is always close and so are trash cans.

I have a carpenter's pouch with 4 pockets I put on my belt when I'm digging more dirty targets. I have a belt clip I made that holds my shovel. That leaves one hand free.

Happy Holidays,
