How do you know when search coil is fully charged?

Tony N (Michigan)

I just received my Deus this afternoon and am charging everything. I don't see in the instructions any mention of how to tell when the search coil is fully charged.

Page 32 of what?
Page 32 of the online V4 manual is about TX power.
When the light on the coil goes from a constant light to one that alternates between on and off very slowly , as in 3 to 5 seconds(?) , the coil is SUPPOSED to be fully charged. I find that to be inaccurate and always check by turning the coil on with the remote and checking the coil charge indicator on the remote display to be convinced. Too many times the light has indicated a full charge and , when I got to the field shortly after charging , the indicator for the coil charge showed it to be 1/3 or 2/3 charged and not full. When it showed a 2/3 charge it rapidly dropped to 1/3 after a short time so I no longer trust the coil light charge indicator. I seldom hunt more than 4 or 5 hours at a time so it has never died on me in the field but I do carry the XP emergency AA charger in my vehicle.

I have had several problems with getting a full charge out of my coil, have put it back on charge again and even then it was only 1/2 charge then i read that if you take the skid plate off and it will then charge. I did this and it charged up right away, the clip will be loose so you have to slide it up or down until the light is on solid. You may have to prop up the one side so the clip will make contact, I will try it again on the next charge and see if it works again. If anyone is having the same problem give it a try.

The charging clip on the coil can be a bit fiddly, but with care the charge light will stay on.

I have owned a Deus for nearly 8 years and not had any real problems.

We all know that batteries of any sort can let us down, but XP have always been very good if and when a problem has arisen in the UK.

Happy Hunting.Jerry.
