how do you guys get such great shots?

I tried with my camera and haven't had any success. It's a 9 pixel must not be doing something right. any suggestions, lightting, background???

Don't know what kind of camera you have but look through the manual and see if it has a macro selectable setting for taking close up shots.
If it does, use it for those close up shots with fairly low resolution selected and don't use zoom for the most part and you should get good results.

What Mike said....Also some cameras just don't have what it takes to get good closeup pictures. I use a Sony DSC-H1, it takes awesome closeups. The picture below is one I took with it. There is also some software that you can use once you take the picture to fix it up a little bit. Picasa2 from google is a good free software, it allows you to adjust the picture is several different ways. Faststone free photo resizer is good to change the image quality and resize the photos. It will reduce the image size in KB making it a lot faster to view without changing the image size.
