how do I shorten lower rod?

Mike T

I have a XS2a PRO that even at its shortest setting, I'm still straining to elevate it. I need to lose about 3 inches so it can hang straight down loose.
I guess I can saw at the level I want but what do I use to make the round hole for the button clip?
Why do they make these so long? don't they realize with a heavy detector its supposed to be close in front of you hanging free.

Use a 1/4" drill. Use the next hole down in the rod as a guide with the lower rod still locked in. This way the rod will lock in straight after you have drilled the hole, trimmed the lower rod, and installed the lock button in the new hole.

You have to be very careful to drill on center....
Might be safer to use a bit one size smaller than 1/4", then work the hole out with a small round file until the base stem of a 1/4" bit will just fit in the hole.

I think they make them long for tall people, and for those who just feel they have to have a very long sweep to cover ground.

Did my 2a and GT this way (one hole shorter) and they are perfect over grass. Could be about a half distance between holes longer for bare dirt. Would have to add an extra hole in the rod between the two uppermost holes for this. Would have to make some kind of jig to keep things lined up.

You will find that letting the rod just hang will shorten your sweep a little, but is much easier on your arm. Coil control is also much better this way.
