on the silver sabre i got it has a switch either all metals or discrim. it has two knobs, one for discrim level, the other sensitivity. how do i set up the discrim part to lets say go for only gold or silver ? is that what it is for ? thanks, im a newbee

c mon guys, help me out its only 1 oclock in the afternoon here in seattle and the rain has stopped and i want to go hunting at a old 1800's railroad station

Put it in disc, set it for just under a nickel. Run the sens up pretty high. Mine discs a nickels out right at the 5 cent mark and go. All metal will give you much better depth, you just will be digging everything, which sometimes isnt so bad.

to hunt for gold you will need to run the disc at just above iron I would think Silver could come in at above the pulltab range White Gold will even come in high on the disc as well sometimes you will need to just dig all soild signals if you are in an area that is highly likely of holding a gold ring remember pull tabs come in there as well as nichols we all dig trash and it has to be to find the Jewels

I am unaware of any detector that will discriminate out everything and only find silver or gold. You will have to be like all the rest of us and dig alot of trash for one tiny treasure. I hunt with disc. just above iron and sens. almost maxed out on my Vaquero. Tesoro's are know as the best beep and dig detectors on the market, mine beeps, I dig.

All the above is good info. I like to throw a nickel on the ground and turn the disc until the nickel crackles and drops off, then turn it back to where the nickel just gives a good, solid signal. That should handle most small iron, small foil etc.

just went out in my front yard by the sidewalk and found two pennies ( 1980 and 1982 ) one at 4 inches and the other at about 5 inches and a 20 lb cylindrical weight of of unknown metal ( probly iron ) at about 9 inches. i am freaking hooked ! ( ive had a bunch of gophers lately so a little digging wont hurt anything ) the old silver sabre seems to work pretty good but i probly will get a vaquero pretty soon. thanks for your help guys

Hey hawk, are you north or east of Seattle? I'm south and always looking for new hunting grounds for my outlaw.

The Sabre was the only Tesoro I had with pinpoint and before it whacked out on me and Tesoro couldn't fix it I always left it at min.discriminate. I loved comparing the signals in min. disc. with the pinpoint, all metal mode.

On some detectors you have the ability to discriminate by notching above and below certain areas, for example if you only wanted to look for gold or silver you could notch in areas where they might fall and notch everything else out. on your sabre you can discriminate but it doesn't have a notching feature. hope that helps.

bill i am having problems emailing you, try emailing me at stanwade@yahoo.com. and opie i am north of seattle in marysville. i think i am figuring out the discrim, today i had a hit at a school and dug down about 6 inches and found a old rusty iron spike and i thought darn this discrim doesnt work and ill be damed there was a old dime right next to it
