How do I identify an old slug

BONE

New member
I found a slug that was in the right spot at this historic spot and want to see if I could ID it. It came from the Buffalo solider camp at Naco Arizona. This is the only standing (barely) fort still on the west coast from the 1800's. Looks like they are trying to restore part of it but I checked the area they are ignoring. So anyway I found this bullet and need help seeing how old it is. The bullet is a slug with a cavity/hole in the back of the bullet. It has two small thin grooves at the bast of the slug. It appears to be .45 cal. I found it in another spot somebody had checked but they gave up. I could see the tale tale signs that someone was there. I had to dig another 8 or so inches and found it. I use a Explore SE and found a peso and much junk and a 100 tabs. So it was trashy but there is history and battles that happened there. So does anybody know how to ID this? I can send pictures if anybody interested. Here is a little history of this place. Buffalo Solider Camp

Thanks!
