I am a relic hunter and occasional coin hunter i have tuned myself in to the tones and numbers of buletts buttons and coins. I hunt in all metal in 3 tones. My main question is around what numbers should i be looking for . Are they fairly stable and do they hit a high or medium tone. Thanks

JREB, here are links to a couple posts I've made concerning that very question. The first link is here on the X-TERRA forum. And the second link takes you to one of my posts on Minelab's TreasureTalk forum. Hope these help you out.

Part 1 of the Minelab post will explain how using too much discrimination can affect your finds. You might find it interesting as well.

I have found 2 gold rings, one 14k mens and one 10k womens. The womens ring is thin and the reading jumped around more than 2 but it sounded good so I dug it. The mens ring was more steady, don't remember the numbers for either. I dig everything that is somewhat steady and reads over -6 usually. I dig plenty of foil and pull tabs, sometimes they read steady depending on the ground and the orientation:shrug:. I use all metal 99 tone.

I hit a small gold ring at the freshwater beach(sand) at +10 with a stable number on my round 10.5 HF DD. I believe a .410 shotgun brass casing came up as the same number. (Boy is that coil ever deep at the beach.) At the beach I like to use either use All Metal or with all the -negative numbers notched out with 99 tones.

I would like to know what peoples success or failure is at using the round CoilTek 15" MF DD WOT on gold rings and other gold jewelry at freshwater beaches or in dry sand at saltwater beaches.??
