How do coils get out of calibration

Never knew they could get out of calibration. I've never heard of anyone talking about that on the forum. My thoughts are if something goes wrong with your coil you've got two choices either send it back to the factory for repairs or buy a new one.

Maybe the coil hitting up against trees and such while swinging over a period of time, kinda knocks the windings out of whack. I know it has happened to my Nautilus coil a few times while relic hunting in the woods. They open it up an re-calibrate the windings.

Friend of mine sent his AT Pro in because the head unit broke of the shaft. They repaired it and told him that they recalibrated his coil because it was way off.

Too much heat or too much cold and banging it against rocks and tree trunks.

To get Max Sen and Depth, Coil and are better Calibrated to machine.. you get max depth more stable machine at high power settings. The Nautilus DMC2B is currently only machined made that not coil balanced and hand made and each time to balance to machine you adjust controls called R -C to outside Air Temp. and power setting. Many other brand and company mass product there coil with wide accect ranges vs hand made coils.

blisstool as well coils only for that machine?

really none of the coils we use are perfect from what I can see just some are better than others.

Depends upon the coils construction.
If the coil windings are sealed, encapsulated in epoxy not effected by temperature changes, it should not be an issue.
Those that are foam filled will have a higher rate of shifting during temperature extremes, ever notice at one point how you had to adjust the threshold as the sun heated up the coil?
Back in the day, common issue, especially with Garrett's, get out hunting just before sun up, as the sun rises and heats, your threshold rises....................

Another, way modern coils may need to be recalibrated is the fact they have a small circuit board inside the coil with resistors and capacitors that could age or fail or go out of spec.

I hear Nautilus machines according to Keith Southern and others need to be sent in about every two years to be re-aligned. Gather the foam is contracting and expanding causing the coil bundles inside
to shift out of phase.

My take on it is that it is in the epoxy used, and temperature, especially heat. I used to work in making millitary grade antenna servaillence, and space applications. We used the highest quality resins and products went through environmental quality control specs. I highly doubt that the commercial industry really does anything near the same. In the end, we have to suffer the cost of replacement/repairs, both episodes being a money-maker for detecting companies. Things made these days are made for re-buying. The consumer can limit this with common sense, prepartion and care. I've actually begun packing my extra coils inside thermal packs along with a frozen bottle of water or two. Gives me drinking water at the same time.

I think that if the statistics concerning coil breakdowns were known, we'd find that the southern midwest would show respectfully higher failures. I've learned the hard way myself that packing the car with my array of different coils during summer hunts...rolling up the windows and detecting for hours, caused the majority of my coil problems in short order.

Black colored coils aren't helpful either, but most Tectors like'em.
