how do bottles show up w/metal detector?

Hello all this is probably a stupid question but how do you find bottles with a metal detector? I just ordered my first metal detector and have not received it yet. I have dug some old ones up while planting a garden very interesting. Just kind of curious. Thanx

There will be metal caps still on some...and other household trash...I found a nice fruit jar with zinc cover still on it. Where there is a lot of signals in the ground your most likely over a dump.

Gi'day KDBone, glass bottles don't show up with a detector, but if they have a lead seal or wire arounf the neck, or are in the vicinity of a dump with other trash, then your detector will pick up this trash, and your bottles will be among it. I found one such dump by detecting for something else. It was quite a surprise, believe me, and the amount of bottles I pulled out too!

Thanx for the info. I should have guessed. I will definitely keep my eyes open when digging. I thought the couple of small bottles I found while digging a garden where very interesting. I wish I could remember where I put them. Well thanx again Happy Hunting.
