Cool story Digger....My first experience with a metal detector was in 1971 or 1972, while I was in college. My dad had just bought a D-Tex detector that operated similar to the machine you described. The first time we went out, we weren't fortunate enough to find a Walking half but enjoyed the thrill of hoping, and not knowing what the next target might be. Memories like those are part of the "treasures" of detecting....
 
Great story Randy! My last and only hunt with Bill required a neighbor's tractor to pull his truck from the "dry looking" corn field. Great day, great memory! JJ
