How did you decide which metal detector to get for your 2nd or backup detector

I'm thinking about buying a second metal detector, and can't make up my mind which one to get.

My thinking is as follows:
1.I would like to buy something to backup my EX II.
2.I would like to have something for friends or family to use.
3.I would like to have something to augment my EX II.

I've had my EX II for about 6 or 7 months and I'm very pleased with it. My first train of thought is the EX SE. I've even thought about and went and looked at some other brands such as the MXT, but I have a hard time getting away from the comfort and reliability I feel with Minelab. I mostly search for coins and jewelry, and now that I'm retired I have a lot more time to put into metal detecting.

I would like to hear from others, as to what you purchased and how you came to that decision.

For me the Shadow X5 was my choice for a backup machine. It is very versatile. I use it to do a fast paced scan of a new field, Its not only a relic machine but a great coin/Jewelry machine also. Weather proof with a lifetime guarantee.
Also have an Ace 250 for a loaner. So simple even a caveman can run it.

I use EX-II as my main machine. Use stock and sunray X-5 coil. Have the sunray probe installed too. Also Vibraprobe 560 & Wizard probe. Lesche digger too. Common to your setup.
Back-up is ACE 250. I have other machines but the 250 is simplicity and if I only have a short time to hunt, the 250 is a quick turn on and go machine. No GB, no menu's, power up and your quickly on the go. Be sure to have headphones with volume control thought. I use the stock coil and the 4.5 sniper coil. Inexpensive and lightweight. There's tons of rave reviews on the 250.
I originally bought it for the wife who did not use it. Then it became a loaner machine. After reading reviews and forum on the 250 months later, I decided to try it. It's mine now...

I also bought the Ace 250 for my daughter to use. It is a great detector for the price. $212.00 It will pick up a large cent 8 inches deep in my test garden.

Certainly can't go wrong with it. Plus if yours ever breaks down you gotta great detector while yours is in the shop. EASY TO USE EASY TO LEARN

I've asked this before with mixed results; or perhaps I just forgot.

One of my biggest beefs with the explorer is that in town around power lines often have to keep the sens way low. I suspect the fact that it is an multi-frequency machine doesn't help.

Any suggestions?

Chris

I have the Shadow X-5 too, and agree it is one light, deepseeking and fun machine to use!
