I need tips in detecting in the water off hollywood beach...where to look ..which part of the beach and how to pick sandbars.
thanks

G'day dcat, If you can get a vantage point higher than the beach that's a good place to start. From an elevated view you can see where the bars are, the deeper water between the bars etc, these will be darker, as will cuts and holes. Start to detect the last 3 hours of the run out tide, pay particular attention to any depressions, such as cuts, channels, holes etc. Anything that gets your coil access to deeper targets is beneficial. If you get a target then slow down and grid the area professionally. The best areas are the swimming area between the flags, jewelery gets lost every day both in the water and out, in front of surf life saving clubs is also a good spot. Hope this helps. HH regards Nugget.:detecting:

dcat, you might have a look on Google earth at the beaches you are interested in. The aerial photos show the contours of the bottom in the shallow water. if they are up to date you can see where the troughs and bars are. Good hunting. I used to surf @ Hallandale beach when I was a kid living in North Miami.
