How deep?

New member
I haven't decided yet but have been looking at the AT Pro and was wondering what kind of depth I could really expect to get in dirt and wet sand. Also, how does it compare to other machines in depth?

Thanks

Going to depend heavily on you soil and target size. It's no slouch on dry land. I recovered a lead sinker under a tree in perfect conditions at a measured 11" but more typical around here is 8 to 9 inches on coins. Beach here has some black sand and in salt water and wet sand I'd say 6 to 8 if the black sand is present.

Ive gone down to a foot in wet sand for a quarter and eight to ten on dimes,i suggest you start doing deep knee bens and squats to get in at pro shape.:help:

I have been using the AT-Pro since a few months after it was released. I have owned 6 of them. Bought 2 new, the others I got incredible deals on so bought and resold. I would put my hours of use and skill level with this model up against anyone without hesitation. It does depend on soil conditions, but average is 7"-8". That is average...there are exceptions. I pulled a quarter at the waterline of a freshwater lake at approx 11-12". I can also reliably hit quarters and large gold rings buried at 8" in dry freshwater sand. Dirt is a different story....6"-7" is about the average. Now if you are just talking that you detector sounds off but no VDI to indicate what it is then it does go alittle deeper then the numbers I stated. My numbers are for solid hits that the machine identifies properly. Some MAY get a little hotter machine, but I have had 6 like I say and that is my experience. I LOVE this machine, look at my Signature below. I own the "Supposed" Best detector on the market (I say that with great sarcasm) and it is up for sale. Yes sir, I will gladly and prefer to run the AT-Pro over that other. That "other" machine I own will go insanely deep but at a cost of big money, alot of weight, and slooow reaction time (compared to the AT-Pro). There is no One perfect detector for every condition, but if I could only own one it would absolutely be an AT-Pro!!

I recover a 10k class ring in fresh water at 12" plus and small Canadian silver nickles up to 8". AT-Pro is very hot on silver dimes .I hunt fresh water only .This year I found over 60 silver coins some of them late 1800's 10 silver rings and 6 gold rings so far for this season. I use 5x8 DD coil it works very good for me. AT-PRO is very good choice .Batteries last long time and light weight of a detector plus price = winning combo.

Ordered my AT Pro and it should be arriving here in a couple days. I purchased the spring special that includes the 5 x 8 coil.

Thanks
Denis

I have dug a rusty bolt @14" with my sniper coil , some people might not believe it , it have a high tone but very weak tone no #'s came up and since I was relic hunting I dug it up thinking it was a deep silver coin but I found a 6" bolt instead, I was digging with a spade shovel and vent back to my service van an got a measuring tape and read out 14", no joke!
