How critical is using a small coil when you are using the stock coil at IM 15 or 16? The other day I dug a hole about 5" deep and dropped a dime in i

I'm sure Cody will get back on this (technically), but what you've done is basically an "air test". Things are sure a lot different when a coin has been in the ground a while. I myself have had great repeatable targets that, all of a sudden, vanished after digging a bit and disturbing the earth / sand around the target. Move around the dirt or the sand a little and, just as quickly, got my target back... I've dug coins in the wet sand at the beach at well over a foot, really wild depths. Yet, if I take a coin and drop it in a hole and bury it, nothing.

In all metal with the stock coil, the coverage and the depth is pretty amazing. A smaller coil, IMHO, would just be better in very trashy areas; for better target separation (but less depth).
