How could I keep from digging this?...

This item pictured gave the same sound and was at the same place on the explorer window as a silver dime.
The dime is just used to show the size of the item.
What could I have done to figure it was not a dime after all? It was very repeatable.
I went to Iron mask and it still showed up as silver.
Thanks.
Tony

What are your settings?
Is that object ferrous or non ferrous?
Sorry I can't tell from the picture? It does look like an eyelet form a canvas sheet form a tent or fabric.
If it is ferrous then see if it still sounds the same with the SOUNDS setting on either the CONDUCT or IRONMASK.
Apart from the sound, note the cross hair location on the screen with differing settings.
I THINK, if it is ferrous then it SHOULD be less detectable and NOT a repeatable signal at the same depth as the coin.

I meant to say
If it is ferrous then see if it still sounds the same with the SOUNDS setting on either the CONDUCT or FERROUS or which ever one you may NOT have tried.

Kepp digging those... some things just read the same or to close to leave behind.. especially round brass.. even round iron.. you bet I woulda dug that too

Thanks Jim for the help. I thought I was doing something wrong. I was pretty excited. It sounded exactly like silver and even looked like it on the screen. At least I didn't dig to China for it.

When I messed with my audio settings and raised them. I could hear a very slight different in tone between the object and the dime after reading your post.
They register ever so slightly different on the screen as well. The silver more to the right and the object just a little left of that.
But none of the settings will make it so the object will not show.

Either stop digging Silver or Dig those too <IMG SRC="/forums/images/tongue.gif" BORDER=0 ALT,":p">
Everybody does and as others have said, some things read like other things.
I would bet (unless your at an old washer factory <IMG SRC="/forums/images/tongue.gif" BORDER=0 ALT,":p"> ) that you dig more coins then those <IMG SRC="/forums/images/biggrin.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":D">

With my settings I get a silver dime top middle or slightly to the right instead of far right top. I tried it with iron and steel washers recently buried and get these top left and jumping around. Might be worth a go.

the computer inside the Explorer read the object as being round also? I know the XLT and DFX do read off the round of an object as well as the metal type.
