the audio so i can tell the differance between a dime and a penny better. They both sound the same to me and I was wondering if their is a way to tell the differance HH Jerry

You could try changing your response settings......if you use ferrous try conduct or visa versa.

Thanks I'm Headed out right now so I'll give that a try. Jerry

Jerry,
You might need to adjust the variability. Look at the top of page 91 in the owners manual. Step 1 tells you to select the lowest threshold tone you can comfortably hear. Step 2 says to check two targets you are likely to often seek with a difference of only 1 or 2 on the digital display. That's where your pennies and dimes come in. Then adjust the variability for a clear difference. Last step is then to set the limit for the pitch. I followed this procedure and am able to use Th.Tone = 1 (lowest tone), Variability = 10 (maximum change), Limits = 10 (maximum pitch).

With conductive audio the tone of a dime and a "copper" penny will be very close.. you gotta reralize how the explorer responds.. if on conducitve sounds the scale goes from the bottomof the smart screen to the top.. since copper pennys and dimes read about the same as far as hieght on the screen the audio will be similar.. however dimes read farther to the right, so if you use ferrous which responds left to right all your silver and higher denomination clad will read with a noticable igher tone.. problem with ferrous is that your stuff reading lower right like bottle caps will also high tone, so you would want to either notch them out or pay attention to the meter.. either way if using smart find you should be able to tell 90 percent of the time just by looking at the crosshair position no matter what audio mode

Good Post Jim. I got to a honeyhole in Ohio and wheats/older memorials sounded and read as far over as silver dimes when in the ground. In my 3 trips there I dug over 700 coins, about 150 wheats and right around 50 silver- mostly silver rosies/mercs- The quarters and one half I found were easily discernable, but the silver dimes were so close I couldn't tell em apart- again, out of the ground in ferrous, with var at 10, easy to tell. In the ground, the old pennies were too close.
Jim
