How 'bout them Bandido's?

I have a chance to buy either a Tesoro Cutlass II UMax for $160 or a Bandido II UMax for $250. I know the Cutlass II UMax is basically the same as the new Silver UMax, but is the Bandido II UMax more like the Cibola or the Vaquero, or neither? Which would be the better choice for coins and jewelry in moderately mineralized soil? Is the Bandido worth the extra $90? Any help appreciated.

Given that choice I would go for the Bandido II. More depth and you have manual ground balance that will allow you to hunt in almost any soil conditions. Also the addition of the 10x12 web coil to the Bandido will really boost the depth for deep old coins and relics in areas where trash is not bad. You can also add smaller coils to the Bandido without factory re-calibration because you have manual ground balance.

Rebel,
All of the 5 pin connector coils will work on the Bandido and the Cutlass II. Only the 4 pin coils for the Lobo, Tejon, Cibola, and Vaquero will not work. Also the Bandido II is of the same lineage as the Eldorado Umax, and Vaquero, the major difference being the Vaq runs at a little higher frequency and uses the 4 pin coils. Hope this helps.

Thanks Jerry. Yea i have been researching them and finding out more about them. Seems either one would be good for what i want it for. I don't get out that much detecting and hunt mainly for coins and jewelry in parks, schools, and the river beaches. Take care.

I assume from your aviator you live somewhere in the southeast portion of the states. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I hear the soil is a lot more mellow over there then here on the west coast. So a fixed GB unit should be alright to use there.

Hi
I had the Bandido ll umax.I really liked it.There are a lot of things you can do with it. I sold it and tried others and right now I have the silver umax which I bought here from the forum in great shape.I will also sell this shortly.
The silver goes a little deeper but I liked the bandido better. The silver you just turn on and go and try to use the disc mode to figure out what the target is.
The bandido has more options to help you find coins.
It has retune and you can change the ground balance to match the ground you are hunting.
I regret selling it and will definitely buy another later on.

Actually, i live in the Pacific Northwest now. As for the choice between the Bandido and Cutlass, it is a mute point now since i found a deal on a near new Vaquero i couldn't resist.

Oh! Well you did good then. Congratulations!

Rebel1,
Congrats on the Vaq.

Hey Dang,
The really red clay areas can be pretty ugly and ground balance will help a lot if you visit those deep south areas ... what kind of minerals do you think give it the dark red and orange colors?
Cheers,
