Ok, ive built a test garden, as follows, #1 is two round lead 50 cal. balls 6 1/ 2" deep, #2 is a Quarter 4 1/2 " deep, #3 is a Nickle 7" deep, #4 is a Rusted civil war era rail road spike, 7 " deep, #5 is a new dime, 2" deep, #6 is a Quarter standing on edge 5 " deep , # 7 is a large chunk of brass (size of a belt buckle) 7" deep, #8 is four round lead 50 cal balls, 9 " deep, ,#9 is a nickle at 5 !/2 " deep, and # 10 is a Quarter and dime at 5" deep.

My VDI and depth for #1 is +84 at 7", #2 isVDI 83 to 85 at 6 inches deep, # 3 is +62 at 6 3/4 inches deep, #4 is at +4 at 3 1/2 inches, #5 is at +75 at 3 3/4 " , #6 is at +76 at 6 1/2 " #7 is at +74 to 80 at 7", # 8 is at +32 at 7 1/4 " , #9 is at +10 @ 6 1/4 " and # 10 is at +73 at 4 1/2 ".

Garden is now three days old, so I know halo effect is not there, do my numbers and depths soud correct though.

Im running in default relic mode with polar plot on, and live in north west Georgia.

Hope someone can advise me................Thanks........Ward

I think you would benefit from some coin sized targets @10" to 12" unless your ground is so bad that you can never get that deep.

Ward I can't remember which detector people are using. If its not the VX3 did you match the coil and detector? Make sure you have a good G/B made over a patch of ground you have checked in pin point to make sure there is nothing under the coil but soil. G/B affects VDI.

Some of the numbers don't sound right but I don't know what affects your garden is causing. I also wouldn't waste time with the real shallow coins. I can't say on the relics if they are reading as they should.

The #3 nickle and #9 nickel don't look right. Why would two of the same coins be at opposite ends of the scale? They should read closer to 19.

On the depth if it is not right on, they should normally all read higher or lower for the same coil. Are you taking the reading in pin point or search? Make sure to take the depth reading after you have the target pin pointed and in the center of the coil.

thats right about what i get in maine, i think some are just blessed with soil type. my vdis are all over the place at most places i hunt, one low trash spot i couldnt get a clad quarter to hit decent at 5in regardless of settings .
