how accurate is the display on the ATPRO ??

targets

Member
as regards to tin foil and small silver coins and then gold items of varying carat ?
not worried about iron as thats more or less sorted .
and crushed beer cans ,where do they come on the display and are they accurately predicted by the display?
beer cans and tin foil are my main concerns

I have found that most of the foil will hit below the nickel mark in the 40's. I have had bigger wads of it hit in the nickel range. The gold rings will probably hit all over the place. Anywhere from foil to penny range just depending on the size. Beer cans can hit in the coins range but they are usually easy to tell because of the size. Pieces of cans may hit anywhere depending on the size of it. The smallest silver coin I have found has been a dime and it hit in the low 80's like it should have.

The digital VDI display is accurate. However all bets are off in there is different type of metal in close proximity to the coin. For example if there is a pull tab or nickel right next to a quarter, the VDI most likely will not read the usual 86-87 but something less. Soda and beer cans will do a good imitation of a dime or quarter to some extend until you start sizing the target. Again you cannot rely on the meter exclusively but that is the nature of metal detectors and not specific to the At Pro or any brand.

The point is the VDI display is only an indicator and not an absolute tool. If you pass up less than perfect signals, you may be missing a lot.

You can easily eliminate beer cans by lifting coil above the ground several inches. If you lose target is a small good target. If its still there..... crushed can.

...and learning that tip has saved me a bunch of digging!

I find beer/soda cans...tin foil...pulltabs...and screwcaps are EASILY identified by the AT Pro...If your digging tons of this stuff you need to listen better in the Pro audio modes with iron DISC on to confirm.

The cans are easy to ID. So are the rest but I dig them anyway hoping to find some gold. The few gold rings I have found so far rang up just like a pull tab so you never know.

On a recent group hunt at our club about five people located the same can and left it alone. The last guy dug it anyway, underneath was a gold and diamond ring valued at $1500. Sometimes it's worth digging I guess.

Now ain't that just the shizzle...Lucky guy!
