Yesterday I went out detecting with a friend at a site that had an old mining town in the 1870's. Since then there is a pine plantation on the area and the exact location isnt really known. My friend using a Minelab musketterXS found something under the ground and started digging it, he asked me to run my Explorer over the hole and i hear a very fain second signal so i told him. We dug up this wheel like object of solid steel about 3" in diameter and I ran the detector over the hole again and got no signal. Because of the problem i had with my explorer i always carry a copper penny to and test my machine all the time so i descided to throw the coin in the hole in the loose soil. Throwing it pretty hard I then showed him what the sound would be like for a penny but there wasnt any sound(I think the coin was on its edge) and thought Id did it out. I got the penny out and looked at it and said this isnt the penny I threw in the hole and kept looking in the soil and found mine. This penny was dated 1863 and I couldnt stop laughing saying i stole his glory. My first find with the Explorer what an experience, a major accident but it still showed me there was something there
