How about it Tesoro

I am quite happy with the Tesoro detector lineup and haven't been in a rush for them to come out with a new model. But cabin fever has got me thinking -

Maybe a new model or two would be great. I sold my detector to help out with $$$ for Christmas and will be buying a detector when I get my tax return (end of January first part of February). I have been knocking myself out thinking what detector to buy and it just occured to me that it would be great if Tesoro came out with an affordable new detector, I do love the Tesoro's and have owned/used about every model except the Cortes & would jump on a new model quicker than a heartbeat if the price is right. How about it James/Vince how about making a bunch of us ole timers jump for joy this comming new year. Steve.

Sure would interesting on what Tesoro comes out with next. They have had some time thinking about it and see what other manufacturers have introduced. Just don't grind your teeth down to nubs waiting - might not be able to tell folks clearly about it later on :smoke:

Believe it or not I just had my teeth removed 3 days before Christmas so I don't have any teeth left to grind. I am a hurtin unit, mouth is still wicked sore. I need pain reliever and a new Tesoro. Steve.

My wish for 2010,
Throw some TONES into the DeLeon, some Tejon power as well, and I think I would have my all time dream machine!

Oh, you're really encouraging me! My Christmas present from my in-laws is money to help get mine done. I only have 17 left after all these years but am dreading it. It would seem like having the others pulled one at a time, it wouldn't bother me.:sadwalk:

I hear ya, I would like to see a new machine too. They always say they are working on something but never give any details. I think Tesoro is satisfied with their niche of "knob" machines. I would be extremely surprised to even see a HOT/TID machine added to the line-up. I don't predict anything with detailed notch control in the near future, if ever. C'MON TESORO SURPRISE US DIE HARDS!

..a light weight, dual frequency, 2 tone ID ( where the discrimination level determines if it's low tone vs high tone) , manual GB, waterproof machine from them !

I had my top teeth pulled 3 or 4 years ago and it didn't bother me any, but my bottom teeth is another story. My bottom teeth weren't the best in the world but didn't hurt any before they were pulled, it been a week today and my mouth is pretty sore and one spot where one of the 10 teeth was pulled hurts like crazy. The dentist told me that bottom teeth take longer to heal than top teeth because there isn't as much blood flow there. The only good thing is my insurance covers the dentist bills except for a few $5.00 co-payments. Steve.

I have been a loyal tesoro user for several years, but the competion has gotten ahead of them, I bought a minelab x-terra as a back-up to my tesoros, guess what? It has the stuff that everyone is wishing tesoro would do.

I agree. Love my Tesoros but feel they are being left at the gate with everything FT and Minelab are coming out with. But when a new machine is introduced I'm sure it will trump everything else out there. Question is--when?

I have always been a Tesoro man, but it looks like to me they are going to go out of business. Like they always say they are working on something. Been 5 or 6 years now. They cannot even get a little part to fix the Tiger Sharks. If they cannot fix the detectors they have out now how can they come up with something NEW????:nopity:

For a lot of years Tesoro has basically made a practice of recycling their detectors. They add a knob or switch, take away a button, add manual ground balance or change the audio tone on an existing detector and introduce it as a new model. Don't look for that to change to any degree any time soon. About the most that can be hoped for is a detector that allows ground balance in both modes, whether manual or auto, and an improved meter and/or tone feature. Hopefully I'm wrong and Tesoro will build a kickbutt detector with all the features we want, but I wouldn't bet on it.

The major problem detector manufacturers have , including Tesoro, is that the basic performance VLF detectors are capable of, using current technology, pretty much reached it's limit about 20 years ago with the Teknetics ST. Since then it's mostly been bells, whistles, fancier meters and lighter weight. The Tejon, F-75's, etc., have the gain jacked to the max to try to add depth but the small gain in depth is offset by instability at higher settings unless the ground is virtually mineral free. George Payne said there could be some improvement in the coils that "might" add some depth, but the depth capability of VLF detectors, whether analog or digital, has been pushed to the limit allowed by the laws of physics. Allowing more voltage to the coil, as with the Nautilus DMC IIb, Treasure Barons using the Deephunter module and the above mentioned Teknetics ST, can add depth in mild ground but not in ground with moderate to higher mineralization levels. George put a Deepsearch feature in the Cointrax II Baron that adds some depth in mineralized ground, but it basically just alerts the operator that a deep target is under the coil and there's no tone or meter ID, so it could be anything from a rusty nail to a deep silver dollar.

BEAR,
Having had to find solutions for obsolete parts that are form fit and function identical to support what is in the field; I can appreciate that getting a replacement connector that will hold up for a long time when temperature cycled, pressure cycled (to 200 ft deep equivalent) in salt water and not degrade the contact at the pins and still keep within cost constraints is not as easy as many may think. It would be much easier to change connectors and let the old detectors eventually die or charge to upgrade old detectors and coils to a new connector. I, personally, have to give Tesoro a lot of credit for continuing to work on this one.

What I don't understand is why no manufacturer has changed the FORMAT-like putting a simple ED 180 circuit in say a walking cane configuration. The detector could always be carried with you, or on a bike, etc. Would also look less threatening to curious onlookers, say at a school or park. The sensitivity could be preset and the only speaker would be a headphone jack. If you're gonna have to stay with 20 year old technology, make it desirable by others.

to have good understanding about the ways and wiles of Tesoro and figure you pretty well nailed it down. Like you, I hope you are wrong and they surprise us all bigtime. Sure would be a good time for them to get back to what they know works, like a detector along the lines of the 1650,Cobra, G S 2 type detector that doesn't have to be a depth hog to be a success. The tech. belonges to them already and there should be no reasons for them to let it go unused, but to hammer down and bring it to full use. By now we all know that the tech. has pretty much come to a screeching halt and all the nob swapping has about run it's course. Tesoro has some loyal followers, and I have been one for a long time but it would be nice if they would use some of the Tech. we know they have had for years and go back in the direction of what some other companys were copying from Tesoro. We know already from the reputation of some of those copies that there was potential for continuing in that direction. If Tesoro is going to continue as it has, it may be time to utilize some of that older tech. that has proven to be winners and call it what it is. A big part of Tesoro fans already rely on the older machines to a large extent, and a new, old tech, iron killer, at a fair price would bury much of their competition. I know that may be far fetched thinking, but they came close to having a winner before and then shelved it for whatever reason. Gotta wonder about things and hope for that dream machine, No fault in that.

Steve, this subject comes up a couple of times a year and I always enjoy hearing what Tesoro lovers might want in a new detector. If a radical new detector is out of the picture, I would love to see two of their detectors spruced up. First, a Vaquero with tone ID, similar to the Golden. I love the performance of this detector, but I get tired of thumbing the disc. Second, the Cortes. I would love to see tone ID along with the very accurate display. Second, auto ground tracking in disc mode. I loved my Cortes in mild ground, but when I hit hot ground I lost a great deal of depth in disc mode. I don't think it would be all that hard to add these features to these two detectors, but I am not an engineer. My two cents. R.L.

Ooooh, thanks. I'm gonna search this out. Now guys-don't nail me for this one-but just WHAT does it take to find a coin a few inches down? My new 5.75" coil came in for my Silver umax and it's killing the targets! I'm gonna be out lookin' for stuff while everyone's looking for the perfect detector.

I would be perfectly happy if they would just add some tones to the Cortes. I still look at it with fond memories but I'll not buy another. After 4 of them, all of which eventually got sold because of no tones, I just look, wish, sigh, and move on. The Cleansweep coil is the only reason I still have a Tesoro now. Once I get a simular type coil for my F5 and Omega, there will be no more Tesoro in my lineup.

Fun while it lasts though.
