How about it <Let set up a Analog metal detector classroom

which would essentially 'modrate' the forum. I know I will do what I can to help out, especially since I feel the excellent XL Pro (and former 6000 Pro XL) have been poorly represented by dealers, to be honest.

I feel that since there are fewer dealers, and many of them are 'into' whatever is new and exciting ... and digital and touch-pad controlled ... they just haven't learned to appreciate the XL pro and, therefore, haven't promoted it. Sad, isn't it? :(

I am hoping that a newer upper-end model is coming out that will operate at MXT/DFX type frequencies and share their coils, but improve upon the MXT. If they get great performance and eliminate the noisy operation, :) I'll most likely own and use one, but I don't plan on parting with an XL Pro.

I just bought my second detector, an XL Pro. I will keep my Classic IDX (no mods) as my wife would like to use it. With the IDX, I usually hunted in the all metal mode. I didn't like the chirps and sputters and just preferred the all metal mode. I have only used the XL Pro for about an 1/2 hour and used the GEB/DISC mode. I found it noisy like the IDX and would like to hunt all metal. Is it best to use GEB/SAT or/NORM? I live in Western WA and not sure how mineralized our soil is here. I am reading the manual again and it seems as though it may be a steeper learning curve than the IDX. Thanks for any advice you may have. Bob.

Bob, what area of Washington do you live? I live in Kitsap county just south of Kingston. I've used the Whites 6000 series of detectors for almost twenty years. I just recently retired my ole Di Pro SL for the XL Pro. I wrote a few tips on using the 6000's to find deep coins in our soil a few years back on one of the detecting sites. I'll see if I can find them and post. If I can help let me know. Monte is a wealth of knowledge and has always helped anyone that asked.

I use the a norm setting for I like the control over the S.A.T
The S.A.T or Norm will go deeeeper than the GEB/DISC mode.
GET a 5.3 or DD coil for the XL PRO and you will have a coin killer.
Tons of coils for the XL PRO from the xl-1 1 inch probe to the monster 25 inch coil YES the XL PRO CAN GO VERY DEEEEEEEP.

I live just out side Vancouver in Ridgefield--The soil here is as bad as any where in the usa--Just a wondering where you reside???

Thanks CC. You answered one of the questions I had about the XL Pro.I just got mine and I think I'm going to have a lot of fun with it.I'd sure like to hear more about the settings being used. HH,Jerry in Calif.

I just registered and just got my old 6000/di out of mothballs. I retired and want to start detecting again. I was thinking of getting a new XL Pro and see it is being discontinued. I'd like to see a classroom.

I own a XLPRO and although I really like to use it, I have always thought there was something not quite right about it. Here in Fla soil mineralization is not really an issue. Alot of the towns and cities along the east coast have been in existance and founded well before 1800's. I find it strange I have'nt found any thing deeper than 4 or 5in. although I did find one coin at 7in in the sand. It could be I just have'nt gotten the coil over a good target any deeper than that. Air test just don't seem realistic to me. Only been 'tectin' for 3yr's now so inexperience is perhaps a big factor. Sure look foward to that first NICER find though> H/H all.

Hi clondike clad,

I agree with you. There absolutely should be a "White's Analog Classroom", and Monte should be the moderator. He is THE most knowledgeable about this subject. Monte has been guiding a lot of us for a long time now.

How do we go about starting a new forum, and drafting Monte?

I have over a dozen letters about the XL Pro or other analog models from White's. I want to review them and make sure I will not be duplication to the same poster/writer, as well as getting questions asked to share on the Analog Detecting Forum.

Busy with work right now but ought to be over there by about mid-day today .... unless it warms up enough to get in some detecting. :)

Monte

PS: Yes, I've been active on the Minelab Forum's because they came out with a neat model that appeals to me. I'll try the new non-analog Matrix M6 from White's, but I doubt that it will be anything to take the place of my XL Pro, to be sure!

definitely go detecting first. Who knows what tomorrow might bring. Looking forward to reading your treatise on the analog units. I'm sure there will be some sage advice shared with all. Although they might not get quite the depth some of the newer technology gets, those analog machines have a place in my heart that will probably never die. The accuracy of that darn meter is eerie, to say the least. When using those early Whites VID machines back then, it was fairly easy to "know" what you had before you dug it. I'll admit I still prefer them to this day.

Now get on over there and give us your knowledge. Unless, of course, you can get out for some detecting. Wish I could.

because I know that the Matrix M6 won't provide what I want to replace the XL Pro.

I just got an XL Pro back into my personal arsenal and I don't plan on it going anywhere soon.

What I meant to say was I am going to evaluate the new Matrix M6 against my XL Pro, X-Terra 50, and IDX Pro and the slot a detector might take would be the IDX Pro ... IF I had the versatilit and performance.

NO, THE NEW X-TERRA IS NOT A REPLACEMENT FOR MY XL PRO!!

My boo-boo! Sorry,

Monte
