Housing Cracking problem

Guest
I compared the two I have and can not see any difference in the two (besides the display). Does anyone have pictures of or a detailed description of the cracking problem/s? Where do they crack? Is there a headphone, arm support problem too? Any and all details would be appreciated.
Thanks

I have two of these units, one supposedly has the bad housing. It appears the same as the one I have made in June 2001 except for the display color. Do I need to wait for it to break before getting a retrofit?
Thanks

HI,
Sir Larry has an Explorer site (good site too!) and has pics of the cracking:

or just click on the link below
Hope this helps and you don't find what he's showing!

Thanks, I see the difference in the two now. The new one has about 50% thicker plastic in that area. Where does the armrest break?

Any other first run problems to look for? Descriptions? Pics anywhere? As always, thanks!

I personally havent had any problem with the armrest after allmost 2 years of hard hunting.. I dont use the strap though, and I think it might cause problems if tightened too much.. I dont see a need for it myself.... no problem with my headphone jacks either, but I also have used the sr stand adapter since day one.. I did have some small cracks in the housing and sent one in for repair.. will send the other this winter

Armrests are still made the same way as the first ones off the line (problems due to people repeatedly swinging them too fast). The software version is only to accomodate the new display manufacturer part (green on newer but I still like the white better). By the way, the cost to have the housing replaced by Minelab is around $30 if it's not under warranty (they're not charging for the part, only enough for labor and a bit of shipping, pretty decent I think)

Being you have 2 of them do you notice the newer one is easier to see in the sunlight, but harder to see indoors?? I notice the newer one being this way for me as it is very hard to see indoors, but in the feild it seems easier to see oudoors than the early models.

Re the armsupport cracking. I have a WOT coil on my XS, and dont use the arm strap. The crack(a severe one) looked as though someone had walked on the wing! The crack was at the base of the right hand wing of the support, at the base where it meets the shaft. The cracking started at the upper end of the wing and ran along its base-the crack had not gone right through when I found it. Minelab Europe replaced it under warranty, no problems. By the way I frequently search for up to 6 hours a day and generally use the WOT coil. Lastly, I search with the XS in my right hand.

Hello Dave,
Go to this site.
