House detecting help.. PP or cut down a detector?

I was thinking of buying a detector for the purpose of cutting it down and using to shake down the door jambs, windowsills, etc. in old houses. Now I'm wondering though-will the Garrett pinpointer work instead? Seems like it probably has the sensitivity to find that bag o'coins hiding just behind a trim board maybe? Not thinking of replacing my detector-still gotta cover those large floor and wall areas, but I've been in a couple old houses where it got just a little tight to be swingin' a full-size detector in some areas. So I'm gonna buy the pointer anyway..should I call it 'good' or go ahead with my 'chopper' detector?

An Ace 250 with sniper coil would do just fine, thank you.

Hint: Remove detector from shaft. Hold in left hand. Hold sniper coil in right and get around anywhere you wanna go.

Talk about a pp on steroids!!!!!!!

Wow! I just sold myself on ordering a new sniper coil from Kellyco!

Somebody try this and let me know how well it works!

I do that all the time when I crawl into small spaces. Works great. The cord is plenty long especially when it's not would around the shaft.

FWIW, I live in an old building and my Pro-Prointer sounds most everywhere on the exterior walls. Aluminum siding. On interior walls I can trace wire runs and locate studs with ease.

Another trick - buy an extra lower rod, cut it in half ( or shorter if needed ) mount the coil on the appropriate end and a bicycle handlebar grip on the other, hold the control box in one hand and the coil in the other and scan away.

Cool! Why didn't I think of that....
