Hot Soil and Threshold Null

This may be of interest and of help for those users that like a constant threshold. I noticed that over some ground the threshold will null and stay there even if I went to Iron Mask at -16 which is all metal detecting. There is no metal in the soil over these areas of the soil so it would see the null would go away and the threshold would return. What I have discovered is if I have the threshold set to a very low level, just above silent, as suggested in the Owner

Did you try these settings in Semi-Auto and Auto?
I am guessing that you would have actually dug up the soil to confirm there was no metal what so ever under where the threshold null disappeared?
Wouldn't you be digging up the soil at this point over this hot pocket to ensure that it was what you were detecting? If you did dig then what do you think you were finding in terms of a mineral content of that hot pocket?
Sorry, I've gt to ask as I was just wondering in my mind, how else one would know?
You have said....
"I am assuming it is minerals that in some way cause the threshold to go silent and stay there. I think the actual set point for the threshold may depend on the headphones but at any rate a very low threshold will cause the detector to null over some soil and since it is an isolated pocket that is why I assume it is soil minerals in a hot pocket"
I just can't find ANY mineral combination that sets the Explorer off.

I checked this in Semi-auto and manual with FAST ON and OFF. I dug up the soil that caused the null but did not expect to see anything and did not. I always thought a null would have some specific recovery time but for reasons it does not or at least does not on my detector unless I am have a minimum of 9 for a threshold setting for these "hot or cold spots". It is not a problem for the threshold to be at nine but alwasy thoguht it was best to have this at the minimum level to just hear the threshold.
I hunted for several hours this afternoon and the machine works great and I found some nice coins and other keepers and the depth is great so find nothing to be concerned about. I have never read a post about this before so thought I would let others know of this unexpected experience.
