Hot Shot-Super Coil-DD1400 any suggestions?

I'm interested in purchasing a larger coil for the MXT. I was wondering if anyone here could shed some light on their performance or quirks that may assist in my purchase of any one of these coils. I have access to the beaches of Northern California and the Sierras, and the parks are primarily moderate to heavy in mineralization, and the beaches further north probably a little more mineralized. This has me leaning towards the DD1400 at this time (use the 10X6DD mostly). Have recovered some deeper items lately using the standard 9.5" coil. I'm mostly interested in ring and coin size items that I can recover from more measured depths. By going to the larger coil, will I be eliminating the ring and coin sized targets that are still in the shallow depths? Any info would surely be appreciated. Thanks and HH Rick

It's interesting you are hunting in California. All the readings I've done from the guys there claim the MXT won't work on the mineralized California beaches especially the wet sand. Rob

Not only does it work it works quiet well in the dry sands. It does have it's down fall in the wet sands (have to ground a section of wet in salt mode, lock it, then start working the gain to stabilize, repeating this each section, it's possible) and using a PI is the only way I deal with that. If I'm not going to search the wet areas, the MXT is great for locating small items (chains, earing's, earing backings, etc.) as well as the occasional ring, or pendant. Wet sands are for wet units, and the MXT is not one of those. We do have some beach's in the north that has so much mineralization that most detectors start squealing when you get'em in the parking lot:heh: HH Rick

Both coils are awesome, I have been using the 1400 DS for about a year and a half and I just bought the 12" Super coil. For the Northern California beaches and the Sierra's you would be best off the 1400 DS. It can handle the mineralized soil and is great on small items, it is however not the easiest coil for pinpointing but it is a deep seeking coil. The 12" Super coil has become one of my favorite coils it pinpoints with ease and is deep especially on coins, but it can't handle the mineralized soil as well as the 1400 DS. Good Luck

rcasio44, I was at the beach Friday and walked from my truck to the wet and back and this is what I found. The darker colored dime was pulled out of the wet beach at about 3.5". HH Rick

Hi Rick, I've hunted the wet sand in Texas during the winter using the 6x10 with no trouble. The guys who have posted from the west coast just gave it bad reviews. Florida and the east coast was a different story. Rob
