Hot Rocks

metaldigger

New member
I'm not looking for gold nugets, well not where I live their is none. I came across this link.

http://www.e-goldprospecting.com/html/hot_rocks___the_problems_they_.html

And it says at the bottom of the page Hot Rocks can destroy a metal detector. If it gets a Over Load, I have had several over loads, on my new 705, from swinging over a larger peice of metal in the ground, will this ruin my machine?

Here is, in part, that article.....there are some rocks that are so mineralized that they not only make a signal that sounds like metal but they can also cause the audio of the detector to overload and on occasion neutralize the effectiveness of the loop. This means that they can literally destroy the use of the detector so that it will not detect any target.

As I read the article, it seems to me that they are saying the detector will lose it's effectiveness, when the coil is over the hot rock. In other words, if the detector is picking up a hot rock and goes into the overload audio, all other targets will be ignored until the overload signal goes away. Kind of like target blanking on a king-size scale. Overload signals won't destroy the detector. They destroy the use of the detector, until the overload signal is gone. JMHO HH Randy
