hot rocks suk - Any advice for complete discrimination?

There are hot rocks everywhere in my part of the world. And they are driving my mxt and the operator batty. I hunt mostly in Coin and Jewelry mode, but have tried the relic and prospecting mode. I understand the ground balance, lock and dicrimination settings. I am able to block alot of the hot rocks by ground balancing and locking the balance. Problem is (some may not think it is a problem, but I am not interested in busting open every rock I see) I am hitting hot rocks that are registering as foil to quarters. You can see brown on the outside of these gray rocks that resembles rust. No quartz veins visible. It could be that there is a fortune in Gold underneath every parking lot and park in soldotna Ak, however I sort of doubt it. I would appreciate any input. My luv for the mxt is dwindling with every 1990 plus dime that I dig. Especially when the detector is certain it is a hot rock. I dig almost every good signal I get and usually hot rocks are hot rocks. But a couple coins have been the exception. Please tell me the mxt's id system is better than this. Im beginning to think it was a gimmick to sell a deep sighted detector. It can see deep, but so far the id sytem is telling me "your guess is as good as mine." hmmm?

I found a lot of good information on discriminating hot rocks in past posts. Hope the suks thing didnt offend anybody. The Hot Rocks got the best of me. I am still pretty new at using the MXT. Complete discrimination would be nice wouldnt it. You guys are awesome, and I love the forum I have already learned a ton off of it. You guys are just making me jealous reading about all these rings and things. Happy detecting and many good finds to everyone. MXT! MXT! Whooo hoooo!

Hey Jason, I'm relatively new to the MXT also! All I can tell you is that you have to spend time with a new detector, inorder to learn it. I had to do the same thing with my Minelab Excalibur, and that's basically a turn on and go machine. Also, I would consider getting a 6"x9" or smaller Eclipse Coil, that will help with the hot rocks.
LOL/HH.

I didnt realize how extremely different it was hunting ground readings 70's up. Hunting this kind of ground must be a whole different type of metal detecting compared to what a lot of detectorists face. Hey that is okay, we are pioneers in our field. With all the iron it would actually be amazing to be able to differentiate trash from treasure. MXT does it again. Thats what I heard it was for. Thanks for your help! I will keep the forum posted on how this works out for me.
