Hot Rocks/Prospecting mode

A tip if you are working an area with a lot of hot rocks and don`t want to go to the less sensitive coin /treasure mode, in prospecting mode tracking G/B bring up the numbers showing the changing ground conditions by pushing the ground balance button, to check if its a hot rock, when you go over the target the read out will rapidly drop to below twenty if a hotrock, if metal there will be no movement should work the same with hot clay pockets.

Good tip Kris! But I assume the GB in your area is well above 20. Where I hunt the GB runs 8 to 12 so it's possible the GB may move up for certain hot rocks & even lower for others. Hot vs Cold relative to the background GB. I still have five feet of snow, so I'll have to wait to give your tip a go.

That's interesting Kris.
I've hit so many hotrocks in the area I'm prospecting that I've given up. Which is a shame since it's such a terrific zone.
But I was getting genuine target signals every 5 inches or so which is ridiculous... and impossible to dig.

Can you refresh my memory on the technique used to bring up the numbers in GB mode?
I have a chance to test your method in about two or three days.

Thanks in Advance...

Marco

I'm leaving tomorrow to test the X-70 in an area with plenty of hotrocks.

Can anyone answer my question from the other day (above) regarding the technique used to bring up the numbers in GB mode?
Is this method (mentioned above by Kris) a method that is recommended?

What he is doing is the following.

1. He has the detector in Prospecting Mode.
2. We will assume he was in Standard GB Mode not Beach GB Mode.
3. He has Ground Tracking On.
4. He has pushed the Ground Balance button so that he can see what the relative ground phase is and how it changes as he moves over the surface.

Let's assume his relative ground phase is Tracking along from 45 to 50. So after checking this initially at the start of his hunt, he re-checks it from time to time to see if the ground has changed dramatically by pushing the GB button and looking at the numbers.

Assume he does not now have the GB button pushed and is hunting along as one normally does.in Prospecting mode. He gets what appears to be a good target signal, but is in an area where Hot Rocks have been giving him trouble. He pushes the GB button and watches to see if the Tracking function will cause the GB relative phase numbers to change dramatically while swinging over the target he is investigating. He says that he has discovered that if it is a valid target the relative ground phase numbers will not change dramatically, but if it is a Hot Rock, it will Track down to the number 20. By Tracking "down" to the number 20 I assumed therefore his background relative ground phase was somewhere above 20, therefore I used 45 to 50 for the example. Your ground balance numbers of course can be anything depending on where you are hunting, and are also coil dependent.

1 Run the machine in prospecting mode with ground tracking on.
2 Press the ground balance button once.[ this activates the numbers showing the ever changing ground balance]
3 Once you get a signal look at the numbers as you swing over the target [ hot rocks make the ground balance numbers drop rapidily down to around 20 or lower the number will not change over a nugget or metal.]

Sorry just got home hope you got this OK let us know how you go.

Thanks to you BOTH (Kris & Barnacle Bill!!). Great help! Should only be on the ground for a few hours. A little iron around but LOTS of hot rocks though.
Will report back here if the technique works for me. I have not found too much misery re: Hotrocks until very recently. They seems so frequent where I am at the moment although I'm happy to say that one that I dug was a meteorite. I was used to the hotrocks which were ironstone but I'm near a silver & tin mine and a gold mine now so the hotrocks are all over the place. Thanks again.
