HOT HOT HOT

It's been so hot and dry around here, that we can't even go detecting. The grass is brown and the dirt as powder or concrete. Heat index is up past 100 many of the days. Hopefully you are doing some research as to where that next spot is that you're going to hit after this heat subsides and we get rain. I did hunt a tot lot and found about $3 in clad. I found a dollar coin and that's cool. I've got a few places in mind, but we need the rain really bad! Lots of rain! I feel for the farmers. They've lost many crops from the dry weather.

Take care,

Nancy

Yes, same here in Pa. and from the news, about 26 states are in this situation. I understand woods hunting but I still see posts of people saying they went to a local ballfield, had to chisel down the 4 to 6 inches to retrieve the target. If that is the case, imagine what the site will look like in a day or so. I haven't been out except for surface clad shooting for over a month now and don't see any signs I'll get out for quite awhile yet. Too hot, too humid, and way too dry.

Identical situation here in New Jersey. I feel sorry for the wildlife too.

If people are that stupid to get out when it's this dry, they will hurt the reputation of our hobby more so than ever by leaving horrific damage to the ground. Please think before digging when it's so dry. We've seen some nasty HUGE plugs just a few weeks ago and it was quite devastating. This was in the middle of town in their precious park. Not good at all. Come on guys and gals.......THINK before you dig. Stay cool, Nancy

Unfortunately there are too many newb's who just got into metal detecting and/or just got their detector and feel they have to get out hunting without regards to the damage they're are going to do. I guy recently said to me thgat the grass is already dead. It's dormant, not dead, but will be when you try digging a plug to have the dirt crumble and grass roots exposed. Common sense is scarce. Like I said earlier, tot lots, woods and even surface clad hunting are ok to get your fix but the please don't dig in any grass area that you don't own. Those pics describe it all.

You both couldn't have said it any better than that, and with a picture to boot!!

Thanks for the look in/Cliff

I got my fix in my own front lawn just to try out a new coil and the plugs look worse than pictured above, WAY smaller but uglier no less. The plugs continue to shrink and crack after replacing them in the hole and the plug doesn't absorb moister, yes theres a small ammount of moister, from the ground around it. I knew it would leave dead plugs but its on my own lawn and have only been to a public swimming beach in the last couple months aside from my lawn. Even if it were wet enough the heat is rediculous to be out detecting in.

Guys ... Guys ... you all need a vacation for the US.... COME TO COSTA RICA... here it rains almost once every 3 days, grass is green, dirt is moist and soft, and it's MD virgin since I am one of the few ( personally I know of none). Bring your MD and let's go have some fun together.

Here in AZ it's been our usual 115 degrees or thereabout, so we really haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary. It's kind of hard to cause brown spots in sand and dry dirt.

I am retiring and moving to Honduras in six months, so I'll be your neighbor! And MD'ing is nearly unheard-of there, also.

Seriously, it'd be great to get together with someone who shares the interest! Costa Rica isn't that far from Tegucigalpa.

Sounds good to me..............Honey, pack the detectors..........We're leaving! :twodetecting:

 It will be a while......someone has to go to work around here. :sadwalk: HH, Nancy

Well we just got a little over 2" of rain last night and by 3:00 today you could not see any dampness in the ground, it soaked up that fast.

That's sad! We started the year off with no snowfall and now now rain. It's going to take a lot of moisture to make up for this drought. Stay cool, Nancy
